Pindar
And they need to be carbon neutral, judging by the amount of plastic, steel and glass in them. Welcome to the park home of the future. I wonder if they do one with wheels.

Live Peasant
As long as we, peasants, get permission from M'Lords (planning). +1, the low cost/quick build of the house is f*ck all use if you can't get somewhere to build it.

Mega
My Dear Chap Once we get China to copy them, built at slave labour rates, the prices will be a faction of that! Mike

Darkman
FAIL The project is garbage. It's the same old story i.e. gimmicky "cheap" house, but it has to be built on land, and that's where the problems start. What use is a cheap little house if the land cost a small fortune? Answer = no use at all Makes a nice story for the BBC though
Tiger Woods?
Who said low cost? Looks like a nice place for a 2 week holiday. What's disturbing is that build prices in the UK are over 2x what they are in Australia.

rolf
Maybe cheap prefabs are the answer? A rich Branson-type should built a ton of these places on brownfield somewhere (or even container boxes!) and allow people cheap long term rents. Make it a gated community to keep law and order. This way, totally freeze out the baby boomers in the housing market. They will have to drop prices severely before anyone thinks that buying is actually worth the trouble. Unfortunately the NIMBYs, mostly boomers, are ahead of you, and control the planning system. See some of my nice neighbours, below. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/sussex/7441799.stm Edited May 27, 2010 by Tired of Waiting
