guitarman001
Anyone catch 'This Week' on just now? Near the end there was a section on the big country homes the politicians would be residing in every now and then. Towards the end, and not the first time he mentioned it, Andrew O'Neil said 'very wise of them to show their homes off when they are taxing us on ours' (ours reading 'second homes' as mentioned prior). I don't think I'm reading into this too much, it sounded rather personal and to me, confirms the reluctance of the show to ever seriously discuss the issue. A few things have put me off the show before (I generally enjoy it, more for Portillo's take on things) and this is another nail in the coffin. While I'm at it - what about the vilification of the con-lib coalition on Question Time? In my opinion it is the left who are the villains, always forcing judgement on others with a smile on their faces. I don't have too much of a view on the subject, but the issue of homosexuality was raised, with Theresa May saying she now accepts homosexual adoption - with everybody nodding in agreement. Now, not starting a fight as I know several gay persons who I get on great with, but in general who is to say what is right and wrong? It feels like if you don't conform to every left ideal then you are the next Hitler. EDIT - apologies - his second name is Neil and not O'Neil...

monty1080
Andrew Neil is extremely wealthy with several media companies.... he doesn't tend to mention that either.

Sledgehead
Andrew Neil has been shown to be a very shrewd operator over many years. He's not short of a bob or two and has several homes.... Interesting judgements made on this thread. We're entitled to make these calls. He's a public figure. So I'll make another. When talking about the economy w/ Digby Jones, in particular getting banks lending even as infaltion was going ex-target, Jones said inflation was 3.7 pc. Neil baulked at this, reminding Jones RPI was 5.3% and expressing surprise that the government / Bank could easily ignore this. So he might have properties, but it sounds like his UK leverage is low to zero. (Also much amused by Digby's 'sage' advice, coming as it does not only AFTER he hitched himself to Labour as it careered into a fiancial hole but also AFTER he left his advisory role as a Brown GOAT. If he has any useful ideas why did he not express them more forcefully when he was supposedly in a position to make a difference? )
