Doubled her majority

That is not the same as doubling her vote , but when i first read that bit that was how i took it untill i thought about it for a few seconds. But let us not forget her seat is Hackney one of the most deprived areas in the country. They would vote for a pig if it stood for labour .

I doubt it ...lots of Muslims in hackney ...... goat perhaps

...

my bet is ,that she will corner the comedy vote .........

Admits labour failings , she admits her own as well , due to having no choice when she sent her son to private school , remember her actually calling herself a hyprocrite that does not make me like her it makes me see her as someone saying do as i say not as i do !!

I get this impression that if she got to the top, she'd actually do something for the people other than let them have a credit fest and max out the governments debt levels too.

I like her too. She speaks her mind.

On BBC's "This Week" she surprised me many times for her direct criticisms of Gordon Brown. She has balls - much more than balls-less Balls.

She gets my vote ! I'm sick of all those ass lickers in cabinet.

And, in terms of image, she would out-Obama Obama, and by a loooong way:

1) Obama is half black, Ms Abbott is 100% black.

2) Obama's father was an African scholar, Ms Abbott is descendent of slaves really.

3) Obama is a man, Ms Abbott is a woman.

4) Obama is thin, Ms Abbott is... well, less so.

5) Obama is tall, Ms Abbott is... well, less so.

Question is: How are her chances inside the Labour Party?

Yes, but shes like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson or whichever one tried to be president in the 1980s.

ie A raving loony left campagne socialist trot with a 5 tonne chip on her shoulder about 'white people'

At least publicly, Obama comes across as moderate.

We're about 20 years behind america on most things so will probably have a 'black' prime minister by about 2030. But it wont be someone as un-photogenic as Fatty Abbot.

I agree with many of your points.

But America never had a woman head of government, we did. And I don't think Diane's chip on her shoulder is unjustified.

You only have to read what Sadman wrote to see why she might have a chip on her shoulder. What has her weight got to do with anything?

One thought that occured ... if DC rearranges the boundaries/fewer MPs, then

if NuLab have a bad next election, they may not have enough MPs to elect a new leader (33)

oh the amusement !

oh how democracy would flourish....think before you leap....one sided politics produce people like thatcher....not good for many...evil for the few..

Thats exactly why I said doubled her majority not doubled her vote... and I'd agree with you that hackney would vote for labour whatever... the sad thing is thats true of a lot of parliamentary seats... hopefully the reform will throw up more marginals.. especially in the labour heartlands... to help ensure they are never allowed at the economic controls again.

So you support a dictatorship? oh dear.....the Tories/libs have fives years left and counting....After all the pain labour will feel like a breath of fresh air.......if it lasts that long..

Depends what is on her mind when she speaks it, I reckon. She is too colour focussed IMO, and seems to think that everyone is the same as her. I have had black nurses over a period of 50 years of hospital visits/stays. It never entered my head once, that they may not be able to empathise with a white person. AFAIAC a black nurse is the sames as a white nurse with a heavy tan.wink.gif

Altho' having said that, one of the guardian of black folk's hang-ups is likely to point out that in equating blacks and whites, I am denying the blacks the right to have a different cultural heritage. rolleyes.gif

Witch hunt mentality: it never left us. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Ms Abbott, the Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP, who in recent years has been a fixture on the BBC's This Week programme, said: "So many people have asked me to stand.

"The other candidates are all nice and would make good leaders of the Labour Party but they all look the same... We cannot be offering a slate of candidates who all look the same. The Labour Party's much more diverse than that."

ie 'The other candidates are white and I am black so I will play the race card to get votes'.

I thought Labour was big on equality?

"We need a proper debate on immigration, where children of immigrants like me also have a voice."

Why should children of immigrants be given a voice on immigration when the British people have not?

I quite often go to political meetings in London where the likes of Diane Abbott, Jon Cruddas etc pop up. When a leftwing backbencher tells you housing is their top priority, they mean council housing. They generally believe private rented is an expensive scam and anybody who can afford to buy a house doesn't need help. They are just looking after their own, don't expect them to take any interest in the 80% of the country that doesn't have a council house. I went to a political meeting in London this week organised by Ken Livingstone and a couple of Labour MPs who survived the cull, from the way they were talking I would guess Labour is going to retreat into its shell for quite a while and just look after its core constituency (public sector employees and people who live in council houses or claim benefits).

You really don't get it do you.

Since Thatcher gave council tennants the right to buy, and successive governments have manipulated the Housing Revenue Account rules to prebent councils replacing / investing in housing stock, council housing as an option has been closed to normal working people.

Consequently, private rents have gone through the roof, house prices have exploded on the back of that, and as taxpayers we contribute huge amounts of money to private landlords via the housing benefit system.

A thriving council housing sector would benefit ALL of society, even those who never even catch sight of a council estate.

Exactly.

Many posts in this very thread explain why she has that chip on her shoulder, and why she may over-react sometimes, for fear (real or imaginary) of racism. After all, since most racism is covert, it is natural that people on the receiving end may look a little paranoid - unsure of things, suspicious, worried.

A labour govt will always like a warm fart than a breath of fresh air to me.. they have had the most appalling performance in govt .... they just simply cannot seem to understand the basics of running a nations economy or spending money efficiently.... and no I wouldn't support a dictatorship especially having had a taste of one under brown and blair... I hope the new voting rules will result in greater fairness.. if they do then the natural fallout will make it more difficult for a labour govt to get in and I for one would very happy indeed about that.

And by the by we are only going to have to go through a world of pain to clean up the mess Labour has left behind it... they really have been the most shocking govt.

God almighty man... So you don't think that Ms Abbott is British?! She is n ot part of "the British People"?! She was born here!

And you honestly think that "the British people" don't talk about immigration?! The tabloids are all the time banging about immigration! And implying that most immigrants are on benefits! Or "stealing our jobs"... (Just google "lump of labour fallacy")

And then some posters wonders why she has a chip on her shoulder...

Tells you all you need to know.

They can't ever be in power again, utterly ridiculous people.

Don't care who their 'leader' becomes, they are an utter irrelevance other than for comedy value. She is utterly clueless on 'this week' as well, just plain stupid.

Chances of Diane Abbott ever getting to be Labour party leader and then elected into government?

Nil. Nada. Zilch. Zero. Nowt. Nothing.

Au contraire, I think you're wrong. First reaction may be laughter, but actually she's the exact candidate Labour would be looking for. She's a PC-lefties wet dream and then some.

The only barrier is her blatant lack of IQ, as demonstrated on Andrew Neils show. She comes across as a decent human being though.
