We're Getting Poorer

Recommended Posts

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/10118346.stm

We're 5 times richer than we were in 1960!

Except we're not. We sold off council property to the poor so we're "richer" as a whole nation.

Strip that out and it's 3 times richer.

And much of the rise in household wealth is due to propoerty price increases.

And it doesn't take inflation into account, so it's more like we're 40%-70% poorer if you allow for that.

Happy days.

errr... this appears to be gross, with no mention of household debts?

spoiolsport, if you ignore that that wealth is countered by the fact that it is someone elses debt, which they cant actually pay anymore then the UK is uber rich
