Sion Barry, Western Mail

THE number of consumer debtors resorting to bankruptcy, when compared to entrepreneurs and business people, has hit a new high.

The proportion of bankruptcy cases represented by those whose debts are mainly personal loans and credit card balances rose by 70% in the year 2004/05, according to new figures.

"If the current trend continues, we could see annual rates of 80,000 bankruptcies within the next three years."

The enterprise act forces the Official Receiver to deal with propertie far more quickly than previously. I would expect to see forced sales feed through to the market more rapidly.
