Matalan To Lose 300 Jobs

Recommended Posts

Matalan announces 300 axed jobs

Matalan blamed a spending slowdown for the cuts

Clothes retailer Matalan is to cut 300 jobs, including about 100 posts at its headquarters in Lancashire.

It follows warnings to staff in June that the firm was looking to save £15m a year because of slowing sales.

The discount group's head of human resources, Anthony McDaniel, is among those losing their jobs as part of a restructure of his department.

The Skelmersdale-based firm said administrative workers were most at risk from redundancies.

The company, which employs about 14,000 people, said voluntary redundancies were being sought while staff relocations were being considered.

Higher interest rates, a slowing property market and rising debts have been blamed for the slowdown.

You know its bad when Matalan start laying off!!!

The Lidl store in our locality is packed every day. It never used to be like that. The true cost of living in Britain has been ignored by all the political parties.

I would love to see a MP or Minister survive on £20k a year.

AA are shedding 100 as well "as part of a restructuring of two insurance -based call centres in teh UK" (Newcastle & cardiff)

Looks to save £12m pa

Job cuts such as these, linked to investment in new technology or offshoring will help cool the property market and reign in the consumer. But don't assume shareholders need suffer. (AA is owned by a private equity firm)

I agree with you, but 20K a year? That's a pipe dream for a lot of people! That's what makes the boom so incomprehensible.
