Housesharing - Food

Recommended Posts

Looking at going into a houseshare within the next 4 weeks. Just wondering... say you put beers/food in the fridge cupboards do you have to be as petty as putting your name on stuff or do you just hope people wont nick your stuff?

I'm hoping to move in with young professionals if this makes any difference?

Any help would be great

Totally depends on your housemates & how much it would annoy you to find all your milk used. Generally I've never bothered putting my name of things.

Generally you'll get allocated a cupboard, but the fridge can be a bit of a mess.

Make a decision when you see what everyone else does.

Personally I think you can expect the odd beer, bit of milk etc being used (not that I do it myself - allergic to cow juice, don't drink beer...). If this is going to bother you get a fridge for your room.

People taking the urine you don't want to stand for though eg not replacing stuff if they've scoffed loads of it, never buying milk, eating the last one of anything etc.

Living in a shared house requires tolerance (lots of it) but you don't want to get trod on either. Set boundaries you feel comfortable with from the start (its more difficult to change things later). If this is your first share - you may not know your own boundaries yet (so I'd probably start over cautious and relax later if happy).
