Sky News: Housing Market Is Turning The Corner

Recommended Posts

I hadn't noticed any mention of the RICS report on the forum today so I thought I'd add this link from Sky News:

http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30400-13413428,00.html

It basically puts a positive spin on the fact that prices are falling at their slowest rate in 5 months.

"Would-be buyers have become more confident as a result of the interest rate outlook, while the economy continues to deliver steady growth, despite the past year's slowdown.

"The August interest rate cut will support a further rise in buyer activity, though there is little prospect of a renewed house price boom anytime soon."

Channel 4 have reported this story as "Housing Market on the up"... what a surprise!

Adam.

The number of properties sold during July increased for the first time since February,

So numbers of properties being sold has been in freefall? Now they tell us.

while the number of people looking to move home rose for the second month in a row.

Which must include us as we've re-registered with quite a few estate agents in the last couple of months. We heard that prices were starting to fall, how many other people were registering for that reason? Good for the market, no doubt, but bad for prices as these people will go back into their shell if they smell even a hint of silly prices.

At the same time, the rate at which house prices have been falling slowed to its lowest level for five months

So house prices are still falling MoM? Surely we'd expect to see a "breather" of a rise by now.

This is actually fairly balanced compared to the press release from RICS.

For anyone who's interested the report is here:

Hmm, I suppose it's the bull's way of saving face - as long as the price of a house you could happily live in comes down to affordable levels then let them bleat like little lambs (aah) - to quote The hostess with the Mostess from Spinal Tap - "Money talks and (that naughty word) walks".
