When Is Council Tax Rebanding Going To Take Place.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what date roughly the local councils are going to pick to drop this bomb on us?Also is the likelihood of falling house prices (right in the midst of them doing it) going to make it the lightning rod of public anger that I think it could well end up being.

Some time in 2007.

Students get crippled in 2006 with the introduction of course fees. At the point the BTL market will bomb (in many areas it is almost totally reliant on student numbers) as simply many potenital students just will not be able to justify the cost - alternatives are don't go at all or live at home and go to local college.

2 big effects to come into play.

We'd have even bigger oversupply problems down here in Southampton if it weren't for the large numbers of overseas students (particularly Chinese) who seem to be sustaining the rental market. The university is starting to offer degrees taught in China now, so this might also remove some potential tenants from the system.

My landlord and landlady had real trouble finding tenants for our old place this July. Good thing they're such decent people and I was able to "sell" the place on the quality of the landlord. They got so worried they stuck it on the market (too high, no takers - many better standard properties up for sale in the same road, still unsold after a year).
