Gordon Brown Warns Economic Storm Not Over

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has warned Britain of economic "bumps in the road" ahead but vowed "we will weather the storm together".

And in a pre-election swipe at his political rivals, he said "now is not the time to turn back", adding: "I will not let you down".

He also said the Budget would be held on 24 March and confirmed a pay freeze on senior public employees.

The Tories say Labour cannot be trusted as it presided over a deep recession.

They say a new "economic model" is needed to replace an economy burdened by public and private debt and have called for action to cut the ballooning deficit to begin straight away after the election - expected to take place on 6 May.

The Lib Dems say the economy is too fragile to start cutting public spending and government support for business and jobs must continue.

Revised figures published in February showed the UK emerged more strongly from recession at the end of last year than had previously been thought, but some economists have warned that growth could easily falter again in the coming months.

Mr Brown said the worst of the recession was over but the economic recovery remained "fragile" and could be undermined if spending cuts were pushed through too quickly.

"While we have come through the worst of this dreadful storm, the waters are still choppy. There are still real risks to the recovery."

He warned that "recklessly and rapidly" withdrawing the government support put in place after the financial collapse of 2008 would "risk driving our economy back into recession".

more statist drivel at the link..

Fair play to him he has absolutely no shame.

The trouble, as can be seen by recent opinion polls, is that people believe the kunt.

I think 'education, education, education' meant teaching the masses how to be stupid.

Do the bookies reflect this though? Williams hill still has a labour majority on 8/1. I think the opinion polls have got it wrong.

"It is a mark of adulthood that the mature individual accepts hard truths. He is no longer protected. He has "put away childish things." He no longer believes in the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, or Santa Claus. It is a reversion to childhood, however, if he believes in big government entitlements. In that case, there is nothing to be done. The adult has become a child and lives in the protected world of the child, absorbed in a childish fantasy. " (JR Nyquist 03.05.2010).

patience, dear boy.

Those born since the mid 1970s have a clearer view and will contribute to kicking this tw*t out. Only half of the boomer generation are actually venal socialist k*nts. The others have a clearer view.

GB is his own worst enemy in electoral terms.

It's all ok, he's announced £3bn of savings by 2013 by freezing senior civil servants, judges and military officers pay.

Let's see, 2009 budget deficit = £178 billion

So at £1 billion saved per year with this pay freeze and all things being equal, 2010, 2011, 2012 budget deficits = £177 billion per year

Pissing in the wind.

Got gold? I haven't been on here much recently, but since I was last really hammering my keys on the subject in the autumn last year the sterling spot price of gold is over £100 higher. Take note.

Reasons to vote Labour

1.) My dad voted Labour as did his dad and his dad before him

2 ) Remember Thatcher

3) It would be worse under the Tories.

4) They are not Toffs and support the Working Class.

5) I have been promised a retirement of luxury that can't actually be provided, the tories will tell me it's not there. Labour will carry on telling me it is and I can't face the truth.

6) I want to see sterling totally raped by insane fiscal policy so that at the height of the mayhem I can buy a nice big house for a couple of ounces of gold.

(9) "I remember when interest rates were a gazillion percent under the Tories, but thanks to the brave actions of our glorious leader we now have permanently low interests rates forever. Hail Zanulabour. Forward comrades!"

I think that is more to do with having an office clerk as head of the central bank who is repaying his master's generosity in given him his position, regardless of whether debt or a sterling crisis wipe the country out.

Because some 'right on' comedian in the 80' s told me when I was a student it was the right thing to do and I can't think for myself. On and I really like that 'thing's can only get better' tune.
