Stock trades up in early trading, presumably because they've managed to stay out of the red, and stand to make a windfall gain from Rightmove IPO.

Pre-tax profit is up YOY, maybe someone could explain what the difference is? is it just to show their shareholders that they are still making a pre-tax profit and not a massive loss?

Suffering from a downturn in the country's housing market, Countrywide said the group could operate profitably in the slower market.

Yup! Down sizing. Second phase of the slow down is getting underway, job losses. Got mixed feelings on that as a general point.
