Ex-ecb Chief Wim Duisenberg Found Dead

Recommended Posts

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4733081.stm

Wim Duisenberg, the former head of the European Central Bank, has been found dead at a house in south-east France, the French police say. No details were given about the cause of 70-year-old Mr Duisenberg's death.

In all probability this was just natural death, as the guy was 70.

But the "found dead" and "no details" are a bit suspicious. Maybe he knew something.....

The article says that his body was found in a swimming pool - seems rather unusual.

The article has been expanded now:

When Mr Duisenberg stepped down in October 2003, he warned finance ministers to stick to the strict budget limits set out in Stability and Growth Pact.

But the limits have been repeatedly breached and Germany itself has become a regular offender.

Germany, Italy and Portugal are all currently in breach of the 3% cap.

The guy was not keen on low interest rates - he must have not been very popular with corrupt governments....

Some people never learn do they, don't ever invite Michael Barrymore around for a swimming pool party.

But I also see the police made the announcement. Is that normal for French police to announce deaths, or is it just reserved for Europhile politicians and dead princesses? Maybe he's done a Maxwell.

I found this on Wikipedia

Wim Duisenberg was married to the controversial political activist Gretta Duisenberg. She became infamous when she declared she was aiming to collect 6 million signatures against Israeli policies; this figure was associated by some with the number of Jewish victims of World War II. During Wim's presidency over the European Bank, Gretta hung a huge Palestinian flag from their house in Amsterdam, which Wim later removed. Wim Duisenberg died on 31th of july 2005 in France.

Apparently he was also a heavy smoker, with a penchant for Marlboro cigarettes.

Well it was his idea to float the Euro it is only fitting that he is sunk along with his bannana republic currency.

As a matter of fact GBP has been going down against the euro for the last couple of years.

Could it be that Gordon Clown has debauched our currency and we are even more bananas than the EU?

I would suggest a rationale that our Gov have been chasing the Euro down in the vain hope of parity so we could join.

Labour are renowned for their policy of devaluation and they seem to have done a good job this time round. Remember There is nothing new about new labour.

From a Government that has gone against the people on most issues I'm afraid the Euro if it doesnt crash and dissapear will also be implemented by stealth like the war on Iraq.

I'm afraid they will have to chase it to the bottom as the Italians and the French, and the Germans now want out. 20% unemployment as a direct consequence is not a vote winner.
