Just checked, there isn't a number 1. Could have been a test account that I set up then deleted when the forum was first started.

No, we've just maxxed up our server and bandwidth to cope with the traffic.

PHP mmcache cache's the compiled php code so rather than the server having to compile the php code on each page load, it just executes the code from shared memory. Have a look at http://turck-mmcache.sourceforge.net/index_old.html for detailed stats.

It's free and very simple to install, you can just download the package (are you running linux?) and install it. Then just add the module to the php config (zend_extension = /usr/lib/php4/mmcache.so) and restart apache.

If your really getting bogged down by page loads etc, it may also be worth looking into lighttp which is a VERY fast http server also supporting php+cacheing.

Ever thought of auctioning No 1 off webmaster.

Could be very valuable in the future similiar to vehicle registration numbers. <_<

Thanks noyk, we had a look into this and decided to install the Zend Optimizer for the time being. We'll see how that does then we might try eAccelerator which I believe uses the mmcache technology.
