Climate Change Threads

:lol::lol:

I rarely bother to engage in these climate change threads any more, both camps are too firmly entrenched to make it worthwhile.

But that statement also applies to much of what's posted on the main forum. Is that why you spend so much time in off-topic?

I'd be interested if they were discussions of substance.

Unfortunately they deteriorate within half a dozen replies to 'what have scientists ever done for us huh'.

Presumably Newton was in the pay of Big Gravity or something. I give up at that point.

Its kind of pointless...

All I can say is something is happening...

But curiously those who say yes are in effect demanding punitive taxes to 'stop it' which isn't going to help..

My trip in Beijing and Korea showed immense waste of energy , in S Korea people would drive around in their cars with their windows open and the aircon turned on too...

Same thing in Beijing but beijing was worse open fronted shops that used aircon so the cool air escaped....

We could (as in the UK) go back to the stone age and have no significant effect.

The UK is not much better. Look at pretty much every convenience store in the country. Open fronted fridges with lukewarm cans of juice. And all so we don't have to use our poor wee hands to open a friggin door !!

The main reason that I spend most time in the OT forum is that I'm seriously bored of the same old subjects being discussed ad infinitum.

Sadly, I feel like I've got to know a few people in here too...nice little social club it is.

Face with just the eyes showing (huff).

The thread was actually intended to express annoyance about Prince Charles banging on about climate change, when he's always flying around in private planes and helicopters (should have been promoting British business at a crucial time). On his day's off he's probably riding around his opulent mansion on an old nag!

Edited because I found said Emoticons (I can do this, I will prevail the forum change).

406 pages over six months :lol::lol::lol:

And it changed no ones opinion :o:(

Rule 1: all online climate discussions consist of people who know nothing parroting stuff they don't understand from partisan websites.

I think this is one area where the internet has been genuinely damaging. People make their minds up about things after about 10 seconds thought based on their political biases, then they can go and find a website which feeds them propaganda that tells them exactly what they want to hear. It's as if people revel in their own stupidity. That's not the way forward.

[Of course, HPC is different.]

I find it a bit boring now, the same with many of the threads on main topic, I've seen them many times before. Specialists can't tell me accurately what's going to happen with the weather tomorrow, let alone 1,2,3...years time!

No I'm going to stick to lunch, poo, naughtiness, strange things, happy things, moral issues, aliens, sexy women (Kirsty Allsop...) ...

I have noticed a distinct drop in the number of warmists around her recently. Similarly I have seen the same trend everywhere else I go.

Sampling error.

They've just given up trying to engage with the other side, they're still there.

Governments go on about bloody climate change, then create a scheme to go and scrap a load of cars.

My brother made a good point about gas/electricity. The providers keep banging on about using less, being more efficient. What they are actually doing is reducing the amount of product they provide and increasing the prices along side (less overhead more profit). Some how I don't this the directors/share holders bottom line is the environment. It's the bloody hypocrisy and stealth media use which p1$$es me off.

Aliens, Lunch, Kirsty Allsop...

Little point discussing the subject on here as large numbers of posters fail to grasp the basic concepts of harmonics on a trend line.

FWIW - its probably too late to do anything.

Of more concern to us (the British) is the rapidly widening energy deficit we as a nation face. This on top of a situation where world supply of oil and gas has peaked / likely to peak in the next decade constraining supplies when 2.5 bn people are striving for a lifestyle like ours.

The situation is not like the Mid 1970's were loads of new oil fields were under development, coal made a massive comeback, and gas was under utlised.

Cue for Cells with his Grandiose schemes that only cost 2 ha penny

This is what I am saying, a clear example of progress, shortly they will not even be there anymore.

If it helps you sleep at night, go ahead and believe your own hype.

The truth is unaffected.

I admire people who change their own lifestyles and do something about (from reading threads I know you have). It's people pontificating about the subject because it's the new cool thing to do I cant stand; some Actors, actresses, musicians, politicians...I mean bono's always flying around the world on a private jet, steps off and waffles on about destroying the world (like the songs, but people in glass houses...).

Climate Scientist doing exactly the same thing, measuring everything under the sun, why not use their scientific brains to design more efficient products, uses of products. Cool job though, fly around the world visiting different countries measuring stuff!

Yes we are in agreement. The truth will prevail.

Most earthlings don’t worry about it, and the very small number that do, are getting even smaller, soon it will be restricted to totalitarian politicians and their bag carriers.

What about that poll in the US where the number of those that believe in Global Warming is nearly the same as those that believe that Elvis is not Dead. There is a tendency for these trends to continue in the long term.

For somebody who cares not, you spend an awful lot of time jabbing the AGW fraternity. I think you care more than you'd like us to think.

Eleven years of the planet failing to warm as advertised is clearly having an effect on peoples opinions.
