Dorkins
An agony aunt column from the Telegraph about a depressed man in his early 30s, single and living at home with his parents as he can't afford to buy. The last paragraph of the advice? Get a Shared Ownership mortgage on a house Is signing up to hundreds of thousands of pounds of debt probably not the best cure for depression? Seriously though, it does suck that housing is so expensive right now, both to buy and to rent. I remember my parents (who last bought in the mid 90s) telling me about somebody they knew who was renting a small flat for £500 a month and they said, "Why would you do that when you can buy a whole house with a £500 mortgage?" I think I must have just looked stunned, and I think it was then that they realised the current 20s-30s generation is playing a completely different game.
