Jail My £400m Husband:

Recommended Posts

The wife of a 'penniless' property tycoon in a £400million divorce case today said her estranged husband should 'hear the clang of the prison gates' behind him if he continues to claim he is broke .

Michelle Young's lawyer told a court her husband Scot should 'experience what it's like' behind bars.

Mr Young, 47, was told by Mrs Justice Parker in June to come clean about his finances or face six months in prison.

He pleaded with a High Court judge that he should be spared jail because he suffers from mental health problems.

But lawyers for Mrs Young told the court she believes he could be feigning his symptoms and 'pulling the wool over doctors' eyes'.

Young, who has been described as a 'fixer' for Russian oligarchs and British billionaires, claims he is penniless but his wife, who is suing for divorce and maintenance, has put his wealth at £400million.

She is facing eviction from her Regent's Park home because her husband has failed to pay the £10,000-a-month rent - even though she suspects he owns the property.

He has also failed to pay the £36,000-a-year school fees for their children aged 16 and 14 the court heard.

The couple married at Chelsea register office in 1995. Mr Young and his wife later moved to America. They last lived together in Miami, Florida, before she returned to the UK in 2006.

Today his lawyers admitted he was in default of the court order but stressed that he apologised, having realised his failings, and promised to comply in future.

Young has said his property empire has collapsed and he is being pursued for £27million by creditors.

He expects to be made bankrupt and says that, far from having £400 million, he is worth 'minus £27million'.

So although he owns all of his properties, he only really "owns" all of his properties.

The wonders of being a property millionaire; i.e. a wealthy pauper.

And with the latest bearish house price numbers he'll only get poorer.

Throw both of them in the can, or at least, prohibit them from ever owning money again.

Final stages of this in court now.

FT: (October 27 2013) Later this week one of the most bitter divorce cases in English legal history will reach a key point as a final court hearing begins for Michelle Young and her estranged husband Scot Young, once described as a "fixer" to the oligarchs.

A lot of intrigue with this case, and associated bits and pieces.

Grant Thornton is also involved in a difficult case regarding the complex estate of the late Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky, a business associate of Mr Young. The international accountancy firm told the High Court last month that Vladimir Putin's arch-nemesis did not leave behind enough assets to pay off debts that include a huge potential liability of £100m to HM Revenue and Customs.

The estranged wife at the centre of one of Britain’s biggest divorce cases yesterday said she would ‘settle for £300million’ of her husband’s money, plus legal bills.

Michelle Young estimated that Scot Young – once a successful property tycoon – was worth ‘a few billion at least’.

The couple yesterday embarked on the final chapter of a seven-year court divorce battle.

...

Mrs Young, who in the past has described herself as a ‘pioneer’ for divorcing women, said she wanted a £25million house and wanted to live in Belgravia.

Is this the one where the greedy mare looks like she's been lucky to dodge going in a Tesco lasagne?

Woman I know of got £250k as an initial payment after divorce and was then going to buy a house when the rest came through so went and blew the whole lot on furniture for it in one massive spree. Can you guess where this is going? Yep, ex-husband went bankrupt before any more money came through.

The rest of the article goes on to says that the ex-husband (52) intends to a 29 years old model later this year...

Call me cynical but that suggests he is not quite as bankrupt as he says...
