Recommended Posts

Take a look at these titles on a special child-height display in WHSmith today... what does this tell you about the health of British society, morals and taste?

"Yeah, we'd like a selection of easy-reading best sellers in a 2fy by 6ft display. Something cheerful from your incest and rape collection."

That is a bit weird but why come here and get angry about it, go write a letter to WH Smith or something. Plus it's not exactly child p0rn really is it? Exaggeration isn't going to get you anywhere when you write to them....

This brings to mind something I heard on Radio 4 the other day. Apparently, Waterstones had a sepcial promotion on for Father's day.

It was a biography of Joseph Fritzel. The avalanche of complaints that ensured forced them to reconsider their marketing decision.

I kid you not....

just do your bit and don't purchase one

Well if you really wanted to do your bit, purchase the lot so no child could see em.

Always thought books were the last bastion of people who had enough of the telly and half a brain cell...thats a thought that has had it's pants pulled down recently. The bestsellers list is chock full of the most abysmal autobiographical smegma that has ever not been written by the author and I don't get this victim-lit sh*t

"Just popping to bed honey with some hot chocolate and tales of incestual underage buggery"

I believe he topped the Best Cellars list in Austria.

Just expelled about a cupful of decaf through my nose on to the keyboard, my boss has just told me to behave.

I thank you sir.

Thanks, I don't mind saying I'll never come out with one as good as that again as long as I live.

The books do look... weird. Imagine going into someone's house and finding the coffee table stacked with these books

That said, I'm ready to bet serious money that anyone purchasing one of these books in the hope of finding graphic descriptions of kiddy fiddling is going to be as disappointed as someone buying a Camille Paglia book in the hope of finding red-hot descriptions of clam jousting. "Kid p0rn" it most certainly is not :)

I don't get it. Why is this child porn? Any photos of kids are porn now? It looks more like death porn for our fear obsessed culture.

People are reading them to "get off" somehow (perhaps not sexually, perhaps they like crying) on tales of incest, neglect and sexual abuse. Its like those books about serial killers and suchlike.

Perhaps I'm wrong and there is some other reason people are reading them (it strikes me as possible that some people who themselves have had nasty experiences might be trying to find something out... although I don't think that can explain the sales figures of these things, or at least I sincerely hope not :( )

I don't get why you don't get it! ;)

Harman (and Patricia Hewitt) used to have a much more tolerant view of paedophilia: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...graphy-law.html

Miss Harman, 58, was a newly qualified solicitor when she became legal officer for the National Council for Civil Liberties, now known as Liberty, in 1978. At the time its general secretary was Patricia Hewitt, who went on to become health secretary under Tony Blair.

Among the groups affiliated to NCCL were the Paedophile Information Exchange and Paedophile Action for Liberation, whose members argued openly for the abolition of the age of consent. NCCL complained to the press watchdog about their treatment by tabloid newspapers and said in one article: “We support any organisation that seeks to campaign for anything it wants within the law. They have that right.â€

Always interesting to see the background of the New Labourites.....

I don't get why you don't get why I don't get it. ;)

Plus isn't Alice Miller a better choice for those seeking answers?

It depends what they are trying to find out, maybe to see how other people coped etc. for inspiration.

I still don't understand why people who haven't had a miserable childhood would want to read these things though.
