So I Watched "into The Storm" The Other Day

Recommended Posts

And it served as a vivid and shocking contrast which showed in sharp relief the decline of this country in the last few decades.

At one point he said (and i paraphrase) "We did not win this war that the socialists may win the election and destroy everything we believe in", and though I once voted for Neil Kinnock, i found myself nodding.

Here are a few more, which highlight a parallel decline in the quality of soundbites!

"We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle"

"Dictators ride to and fro upon tigers which they dare not dismount. And the tigers are getting hungry."

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

Pity there's not a politician left alive that believes this;

"Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfils the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things. "

and

"A vocabulary of truth and simplicity will be of service throughout your life "

We could do with a bit of his beligerent straight-talking confrontational righteous superiority in the world again i reckon.

.....

Sad but true. The UK is now full of Maggies' children all lying to get a big MEW to buy an SUV, speculating on house prices and dodging doing a real job.

Last one out switch off the lights.

Churchill is one of my all time favourite heroes. He seems to me to have been one of the last MPs to have had a life outside politics, serving with distinction in the forces (in the British Army's last cavalry charge) and as a journalist. The pic of him in a chalkstripe suit, smoking a cigar and holding a tommy gun sums up British resilience and bloody mindedness to me. Imagine a politician posing like that today - I can't think which would give the PC brigade the vapours mosts - the gun, the cigar, or the properly cut suit!

The one thing I would say against him is he wasn't a great orator - a good reader of prepared speeches, but not a great off the cuff speaker, and he did drop some clangers, like his infamous 'gestapo' reference in the '45 election.

Really?

A vile ar$e that favoured eugenics and hated the working class?

I have never understood how this shitbag ever came to be so revered. Short memories and stupidity I guess, same as the house price bubble.

Possibly it was that saving the country from Hitler thing, that I am reliably told people thought was rather more important than house prices at the time.
