29929BlackTuesday
Wrong forum I'm sure. Was talking to employee at the napalm and limb-destroying mine factory in Malvern (QinetiQ) and she said the rumours were that the 100 or so already gone are just the beginning for another round of 600 redundancies. Employs 2000. Downturn in the defence industry apparently. They DESPERATELY need a war - a big war. For God's sake - for the sake of their jobs, Gordon, start a massive war. Now. lorna1999
I recall that QuinetiQ being ex-MoD, get about 70% of their contracts from the Govt. Defence spending is going down dramatically - we can't afford another war - so I expect the rumours have a lot of truth in them. Job losses will hit Malvern and the surrounds quite hard as there aren't many major employers in the area. QuinetiQ also have a base in Farnborough, which will also been vulnerable I expect. QuinetiQ, being defence specialists, and having lots of staff at the highest level of secrity clearance, will of course be monitoring this thread

The only reason they would be on here would be to laugh at some of the Tw*ttish comments posted. Qinetiq (please spell it correctly) does lots of work, especially with emerging technology. before you slag them, I suggest you look at what they are involved with at the mo. Please note, they also do a lot of stuff that is not publicised that has saved the lives of numerous members of the UK and overseas armed forces. They do a lot of stuff for civil aerospace as well mind, so its not all "mines and napalm" (both of which are illegal for production by UK listed companies with a defence export license). http://www.qinetiq.com/global/about_us/our...y/timeline.html One of our engineering jewels in the crown I would suggest. mbga9pgf
mines are illegal? better tell that to the taliban....of course, they are NOT using mines, they are using homemade remote controlled bombs. As the law states, the UK CAN use similar devices, namely area denial command-wire detonated devices, similar to terry. Due to the nature of the ops currently used, we however dont, as they take everything out within quite a large area. Not good for hearts and minds or media reporting in the guardian. Where we cannot go - personel or vehicle initiated pressure devices, streches not only to usage, but the design and manufacture as well. Terry does use these, as well as throat slitting, skinning alive and rape as means of "getting their message across", but funny old thing, we get sandal wearing twats whining on here about how we are runing amok in afhanistan mowing down farmers with napalm, heavy machine gun fire and the use landmines. Hence the reason we had to scrap JP233, an awesome weapon, used on airfields, as although its purpose was runway destruction and repair denial, the hundreds of anti-vehicle/ anti personnel mines it contained were banned. No-one wants little mustapha losing an arm when he picks something up because it looks shiny and fun. As to those opposed to the UK defence industry, what would you prefer? UK squaddies going to war against an effective adversary in the future with sharpened sticks and rocks? Like it or not, taxes on defence profits are being used to pay for your public sector expenditure, including NHS and education. The taliban dont have anything to do with afghanistan. The ones I have met, most dont even look afghani. They are typically 12-18 inches taller and ethnically look different. The reason? Most have flooded in from across the border. If you think the taliban belong to afghanistan, I suppose you support the rape, beheading and skinning alive that ol' terry uses to get his point of view across to the locals. Despite what you read, the vast majority of afghanistan support ISAF in afghanistan and fear a major pullout. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=15734b04d2 http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=6d1_1216416129 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1602644.ece Nice people hey? Generally, when you meet a guy inconsolably in tears, from a village whose daughters brains are hanging out down the back of your aircraft on a medivac due to a Taliban mortar being dropped on their village becuase they spoke to ISAF, you get the general gyst that they dont exactly want the Taliban there... Taliban are ethnically pashtun, from the south eastern quarter of Afghanistan where no real border exists with themselves and pakistan. you have far more than one ethnic mix in afghanistan, its where you get a lot of your troubles from. But why should one minor part of the population be allowed to terrorise the rest of the nation? Hey, as I said, the Taliban are such nice people. Funny that a novel written in the early 1960s and set in Pashtun parts of Afghanistan can describe them in such detail (as well as foreseeing that either the Russians or the West would come in and sort them out, but not foreseeing that when the Russians did that, the West would then support and arm them). "The Taliban" has now become a convenient moniker for any native who gets killed, as well as for the resistance movement.

Why support light Afghanies and not the many other races, nations, villages, individuals that are being mistreated, imprisoned and murdered every day? I havent seen a compelling reason favouring this lot over the others from our government. Why is my daughters future being put at risk for these people, and not our own, for which the army signed up for....Queen and Country., Not Queen and someone elses country. I know they do a lot of civilian work, but as they used to form part of the MoD, have long had much work generated from military requirements. They are being hit hard, and while work is moving more into civilian things (for eg shoe sizing machines, balloon technology), they are facing their hardest times. As for monitoring, I know from personal experience what they do to security check people, and you are naive if you think they aren't aware of what is being said about them on the Net. oracle
All is fair in love and war....period. It seems incredibly sporting to treat war like a boxing match, but it ain't. We've been very lucky so far in that the wars we have had have been conducted between reasonably chivalrous individuals who will cut a little slack if asked.....these world wars being primarily among "christian" nations. The one we have now is different, and there will be no quarter asked nor given. We are now dealing with mad mullahs and atheists.....neither of whom have much respect for human life if it doesn't suit their agenda.Much to the dismay of our bleeding-heart brigade,if they don't like the disproportionate action that is taken, then perhaps they would like to argue the toss in a slave camp in egypt or something. trust me,this is going to get very messy indeed.Liberalism is all very well until your back is against the wall....then you only have 2 options, fight or flight...and either of which you will have to commit to 1000%
