Parcel Express Uk Pay Us £2.20 For Your Parcel Scam

Recommended Posts

just for any of you who missed it

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/watchdog/2009/09/parcelforce.html

basically you get a card saying you have a parcel, call up & pay £2.20 for redelivery

you give your card number

they use your card number to fraudulently buy advertising in newspapers for their other fake businesses such as selling consumer goods at cut price

you obviously dont have a parcel but you do have a debit for several thousand on your card statement for a newspaper ad you didnt take out

even if they have been caught, someone else (hopefully not an hpc reader!) will probably be doing something similar

so watch out and NEVER give your card details to anyone who phones you cold asking for them

(- no i dont know why the merchant services arms of the credit card co grant credit debiting facilities to fraudsters, years ago i had a legit business and the bank refused to give me merchant services until i'd be open and checkable for a year, so why on earth these days just anyone can get a merchant services account is beyond me but we live in the times when they gave liar loans and mortgages out so we see that the casino croupier has replaced the bank manager and responsible gatekeepers)

I am very private about giving out my CC details to anyone. I use agents - like Paypal - to buy stuff, thus cutting doen the number of people who have access to it. I also check my CC and bank details every2 - 3 days, to ensure that all is as it shound be. I once had my details nicked by using a 'hole-in-the-wall cash point!! :o Thieves are up to all the dodges. <_<

Pity there are flaming swindlers and thieves out there, waiting to relieve you of your hard-earned cash. I bet people thought they would be safe from theft when credit card and online/phone payments came in. :(

It is sensible. I worked in a mail order company and some customers did not trust the internet, so they would ring me up and give me their details and buy it that way. I would then enter their details into the internet system, which was extremely secure. However, if I were not scrupulous, I could have passed those details on to a friend a month or two later and it is hard to imagine I would have been tracked down.
