Go Compare Is Driving Me Nuts..aaaaaargh

Recommended Posts

Awful, awful, awful. It has already driven off 3.47% of visitors to the site. It is counterproductive and damaging to the good will generated by HPC.co.

Awful, awful--that man's face is a nightmare

I almost started a thread on this last night... I loathe the bloke in the advert and the fact that it opens up across my screen everytime I come to the forum....

I know the site has to make money but this is very off-putting...

Its no problem on Google chrome!

Also Fubra will have little control over ads served by Google. Being contextual, its more likely to appear if you keep making posts about it!

Hopefully the ad revenue will pay for some new servers, and soon hopefully!

its made me never want to use go compare - so exactly the opposite effect has occured - terrible marketing - TO THE PR department - ask your web designers what Semantic Noise is - and how it interferes with the user on a phsycological basis - amateurs pure amateurs

Firefox + adblock works fine here.

When i first installed adblock some adds got through - generally i leave them as long as they're not too intrusive. Over time, there have been some webshites that just don't learn, so my blocking has got more comprehensive.

Turning off avatars and signatures makes the site a lot more work safe though :)

I agree, I want to punch him in the face.

At least make it so it doesn't enlarge if I move my mouse over it.

That is the nightmare mistake. Drag your mouse to the top of the page to click on something else and it expands all over the page blocking your ability to click on the HPC tabs. And no "X" in sight to send it back into its alotted space. If I was a mod I would remove it for this reason alone.

Utter, sheer disgrace of it all.

Yep. Adblock, and set my forum profile to not display sigs, and this forum is quite good on the eye

with Adblock I have no idea what the problem is.

Firefox + Adblock = No problems ever again

Effing thing rolls down just far enough to disable all the forum control tabs and won't go away (very old slow machine, barely NIC-cardable).

Bordering on sabotage.

Sorry all you other more restrained advertisers, you're p1ssing your dosh up the wall, this one bit of crud is forcing me to Adblock. Looks like GoCompare have beaten you.

I just bail and go and look at SciBlogs, or selected economics blogs, for some invisible hand relief from HPI madness.
