Best Time To Terminate Lease?

Recommended Posts

So I need to come up with a date to terminate my lease with my landlord. He is selling the flat and we want out early (full story in another post) versus carrying on lease to end of April with new landlord. We can't get out now and as I am due to give birth at the end of October will not realistically be able to move for a few months.

How bad is the rental market in December/January? I know we can get great deals as lots of people don't move, but are we going to be able to find anything worth while during this time either? Would prefer to move the first/second week of January, which means we will be looking in mid-December. Or is it really better to wait for Feb. 1.

This is in Central London.

Thank you!

Central London has a Christmas market of "short lets" for people visiting over that period. I've found the market very slow in December and the first week of January. Problems getting hold of LL's etc even when flats are available.

I don't know if it will be the same this Dec/Jan as there are more flats available to rent then normal in my own area and people I know have been able to negotiate prices down. That's at the middle/top of the market though. What will the market be like by December - sorry don't know what will happen if this glut continues. Even if this current situation will continue. If Landlords think they will sell for a better price now, will they all go on the market?

Good luck.
