Armageddon And The 4 X 4

I think the time has come for a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

As we ground rush to the meltdown everyone is gonna want one/a few of these and I want to get in ahead of the herd.

But which one?

I want one that is going to be quite nippy in built up areas, where most of the scrapping will be but also has the off road capability to get me to an up country hideout, which I obviously don't have yet because I don't have the car to get there.

I don't want it to guzzle too much gas because I don't think there'll be too much about.

It needs to be easy to park so that when I'm undercover in my burkha, I can slip seamlessly into nooks and crannies.

Price is a consideration because I still can't find a deal I'm happy with on a clutch of HK417s.

This is the 7.62 big brother of,

And night vision goggles cost,

I think an off the peg civilian model is the way to go because my preference is to evade, scoot and shoot, shoot and scoot.

I prefer a low profile to armoured protection and if a heavily armoured vehicle gets flicked onto its side and the rear door is jammed, the side doors can be too heavy to open upwards, nasty.

As for paint job, I think metallic black because if the thought police accuse me of being a racialist, I can always point to the colour of my car as a first defence.

Any suggestions received with gratitude and this is an asset class that can only go up.

This is what they want (for sale by the DSA). How can people waste £25k on an estate with a fancy badge, when they could have this:

Suzuki Jimney.

One problem with the 4x4 for TSHTF scenarios is that fuel could also be difficult to come by in which case you don't want something constantly guzzling up your hard won fuel. A jimney is only 1.3 litres.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the 4x4, just get yourself living in a sustainable and defendable place.

That's effeminate even for a girl.

If you read I am Legion he keeps finding fuel everywhere. The book is actually quite realistic (haven't seen the recent film) but being set in the US then obviously copious fuel will always be available. It's only the end of the world innit.

Paint it in camouflage colours and wear a big handle-bar moustache then ...

Or buy a fiat panda 4x4.

So it looks like it's gonna have to be a nearly new Land Rover Freelander then.

I know, it's a very, very embarrassing car to buy.

I'd prefer a Defender but there are reasons too dull to go into.

Any views on this latest Freelander?

Looks good and the one person I know who has one likes it and hasn't had any trouble. That's a pretty small sample though!

Where as we have had trouble with every single land rover we've had for the last twenty years. Of course we actually dare to take our 4x4s off the tarmac...

G-wagon is fairly indestructible, although it's thirsty. galloper's aren't bad if you want a discount pajero.

state of the roads round here this year I'd say it's already happening.

My theory on that is that pot holes get bigger because huge urban 4x4's drive straight over them and make them a lot worse.

They are just as likely to damage their suspension by doing that as 'plebs' in ordinary cars!

It's like all the fools who drive fast in snow and ice because they think their 4x4 can stop quicker, forgetting that all cars have 4-wheel braking and brakes are not all that much use in snow or ice anyway!!!

It will be safer to keep off the road. Marauding zombies after your bean stash and leather chaps.

I'm glad you mentioned Zombies

The zombie survival guide(very well researched and thought through book) recommends against 4x4s. Bikes, horses and shanks pony.

Also, those of you who have read that essential TEOTWAKI/TFH novel/handbook the Death of Grass will know that travelling in motorised vehicles kept getting our heroes ambushed.
