3m New Homes

Recommended Posts

Wasn;t long ago. We were told there was a desperate shortage of housing. In reality, it's just a shortage of home ownership but neither political party seems to genuinely care about that as it would affect the baby boomers and debt based joke of an economy we possess.

Now whilst we have homeless people, it's not because of a shortage of housing. There is a shortage in the sense that not every single person can afford a 3 bed semi with mod cons and a car on the drive, but I just don't believe we are in a situation where we need to be concreting over our remaining green land.

Any other opinions on this?

Simple print another billion billion and send every tom dick and harry on the council waiting lists in the country a cheque for 200 grand to buy a house, a driveway and a new car, plus satelite tv, job done.

There is a shortage of housing and the houses we build are too small and shit

The housing units we build are certainly too small and crap.

However, there is no shortage of housing. In 2007 there were 26,652,000 housing units

http://www.communities.gov.uk/housing/hous...nts/livetables/

and click on Table 101.

and in 2004 there were 24,700,000 households

http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=1162

Some of the housing units are empty because the owners can't be bothered to do anything with them, some are in places not enough people want to live (too remote, not enough jobs) and way too many households own more than one housing unit.
