Absolutely! Its nailed on. Question is will Cameroon be good or bad for HPC???

i dont know, i'm no fan of his either, but on balance i think they will do the necessary cuts to mop up the mess... before maybe creating their own one further up the line if they give in to City pressures and blackmail. a firm hand has to be put on the wheel now, there has to be pain gone through to enable a real recovery to come later. this boil has to be lanced, not covered with an Elastoplast.

Although I will muster some enthusiasm at the demise of the grinding new labour machine, I cannot get excited abot the tories.

My dearest wish is they just leave us be for a couple of years to take stock and lick our wounds. If they need to keep busy then perhaps they can repeal some legislation. Please no surprises, just a quiet competence until something exciting comes our way.

The Tories will win the election, economic chaos will continue and they will lose the one in 2014/5. But who will win is anybody's guess.

+1

specifically that comes to mind:

removing the raft of new Labour laws that infringe civil liberties

stripping local authorities of some of the draconian powers bestowed on them

outlawing partnerships where private clamping firms work with local authorities and are out of control

outlawing wheel clamping totally, and towing where there is no dangerous hazard or obstruction caused - so that the motorist is no longer treated like prey

outlawing ambulance chasing lawyers, and the compensation culture which has meant schools get pupils to wear crash helmets when skipping - health & safety and fear of the sue is going too far

i could go on but its late

there are also a lot of stealth taxes to be reeled back, but i suppose fat chance of that now

I bet the Tories do none of the above, just make it worse.

Just like Obama only widened Bush's wars.

no

what is likely is they win and by the time of the next election things are looking better, they then get another term.

dont forget Labour seemed to be doing well on the economy because of the work done by previous Chancellor Ken Clark, not that he was terribly good in Education but money allocation stuff he knows about

If peak oil is really here it won't get better. Plus the crash, looked at in purely financial terms, has a long way to run. The Tories will have to put up taxes or cut spending or do both on a massive scale. People won't like that.

Well put. The tax issue must also partially explain the absence of any enthusiasm for anybody else. It's not like we are lightly taxed now after 12 years of socialism.

Pedant alert. I can't agree with your description of the last 12 years a s socialism. The combination of NuLabour's obessive love affair with big business together with the inflow of public money to large corporations puts me in mind of fascist Italy.

Yes but it was socialism for the banks, not us.

I remember when I predicted a landslide for the Tories. It was early 2007 and Blair was still PM. I predicted it would happen in late 2009 or early 2010 and was roundly mocked for saying so. Should have put some money on it.

The only thing the toffs sorry Tories will do when they get in power next year is repeal the hunting ban. Nothing else matters to be fair.

Why do people still think the hunting ban actually worked? The hunt still happens every week, they found a loop hole in the law to do with birds of prey. So they didnt even do that right.

Well I was amazed they won the last time. But people are dumb and they got what they voted for.

That's they way I looked at it - Labour were patently obviously heading for a crushing defeat at least as early as 2007. and I couldn't believe how few people saw it. That depressed me a lot actually.

To be fair, I only started working it out in 2007; 2 years later and I still have a lot to learn. At least I know that now.

Course, technically, Darling is right.

if France and Gremany dont want to go into recession again, they need to keep government spending up...to make up for the fall in the REAL Economy.

So, thats Darlings plan...spend the GDP into positive....go hang the borrowing.

All this stupidness just to get a % rise in an index.

The tories had this dogma causing pain in GC1....keeping the Pound in the ERM! its just dogma.

assuming there are no "voting irregularities" that go undetected for 40 years following a mysterious narrow win for Labour this autumn or 2010

or they could rig the % - NuLabour new desperation to get re-elected, that desperation is why they are spending real and imaginary cash as never seen before - politically motivated not compassion nor business/citizen support motivated - tis so very obvious to see

It makes me sick to think that people are waiting for the ban to be removed.

It really should be improved, enforced, have real teeth.

Hunting supporters you're simply disgraceful. Look at yourselves. I hope you are proud to tell your partners, kids that instead of doing positive things, you go killing animals for fun at weekends. I'm sure anyone would be proud to have a parent like that...

Why don't you find yourselves a hobby that doesn't involve killing or hurting other sentient living beings? Remember, to sensitive people on this planet you are on a par with serial killers.

No more, no less.

Sometimes, I really wish I could get a license to go shooting hunters... Now that'd be the right thing to do, right?

Doesn't violence call for more violence?

No! That'd be degrading ourselves to the level of them.

Instead I say unto you: Try and really make a dfference, instead of attacking and abusing the weak.

Try and do somehing really difficult and admirable for once: help the ones who can't defend themselves.

And that includes animals!

P.S. I expect the usual deluge of insults from the iron hand & NRA-alike supporters brigade...

Somehow I think this is wrong. Post Brown, Labour will descend into a mess of infighting, and it will take them years to pull themselves together, so the Tories will have no effective opposition.

Boris was meeting the EU yesterday, to defend the interests of ...... hedge fund managers who funded his mayoral campaign.

As a life long Tory, this does not bode well for City reforms.
