Petrol Up Again From Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Nothing to what it IS going to jump to when £/$ crash...............Frankly delighted when they does. All those scum who bought RR/Q7/X5.........."Evo & Scooby"...ST Focus........MERC/BMW.............STUFFED!!!!!!

Just wait till next year when the new road tax laws kick in & they find their "ride" costs them £450 to tax!!!!!

Oh well boys back to the Corsa for you ;)

So even as a weekend car, would it be prohibitively stupid for me to buy an old 5.5L V12? It's only a 1999/2000 BMW 750 I'm looking at for about 5 grand so it's not a classic or something that has inherent value.

Maybe I would have more bargaining power with the dealer given if I buy it I am unlikely to be able to sell it on ever with high prices coming back to stay.

People who buy nice cars are scum? Do you want all of us to live on the level of benefit scroungers?

When last year's (deflationary) drop in oil prices works through the system we'll have quite a spike in inflation, no..?

Or will the ONS massage it away?

nice cars are fine as long as the floor is the ashtray and the back seat is for empties.

Buying a big engine car is willingly paying more tax. Get a BMW 1 series 1.9 TD, it'll go 145mph (if your loser and its speed you want), economic and you'll only be paying 35quid a year road tax.

Stelph tax again Labour sneaking in more tax on the motorist, there other secret plan is speeding fines, i watched a tv programe last week, one copper in a hidden van made 60k in one day, he comented they were using the money to buy more vans to catch more people and make more money.

Well there is a solution to using speeding as a revenue generating tool. We should all drive within the speed limit for 6 months and they would soon get bored of it.

Funny how I have been driving for 13 years now and have never had a speeding ticket.

With regards the fuel tax, they really should be doing somehting about it. What is it now? Something like a 70p/litre tax! It is all well and good for those of us who live in big cities, there is usually an alternative but what about all the poor sods who live in smaller cities and towns where public transport is non existant and the distances driven tend to be higher.

It also must hit the 'hardworking British families' hard too, or I suspect Labours next new bribe is a reduced rate at the pump for anyone on tax credits.

Simple - we'll reduce the tax take on the petrol and print the amount of tax we've lost. It isn't inflationary doing this as the price of petrol stays the same in sterling.

Live closer to work (or work closer to where you live), or get fit and cycle it. You can do 20mph on a bike once a suitable level of fitness is achieved.

Long-distance solo commuting is a thing of the past.

I'd agree with this, but I had my bike stolen last week. The second since I've been in London.

At this rate it would be cheaper to get a Chauffeur driven Rolls

Price rises don't bother me at all. I counteract it with not using my car as much. It only comes out for essential journeys nowadays.

Whinging about it gets you nowhere.

I agree witn the rises in principle. 'Sharpens' the mind for some parents on school runs when they could maybe walk :)

You buy a Fiat 500 for economy and affordability, you buy a BMW X5 for speed and because you can afford the running costs.

WHAT I dont agree with is 'where' the taxation actually goes? The 'nature' of the taxation implies it will be plughed into alternative fuels and green energy.

I would rather hammer the larger engined higher emmitting vehicles direct through road tax however. SAVING the hauliers and 'essentials'.

Its not about dictating to the public.....the americans were forced to finally wake up to the fact they can no longer afford 5 litre cars. My own views are that GM and Ford in the USA were caught napping on this. Slavishly making cars to a 'changed' world.

Have we really got the space on this island to keep buying BMW X5s?? The money going forward as individuals to buy and run multiple cars per family? And yeah, back to basics, have we really got the Oil- AFFORDABLE Oil to carry on regardless.

Some members of the public need more 'stick' than carrot to change??

Albert Einstein- "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"

When Oil prices were low, it was Back to the Future, 80s boom.. We need to change.

A regular return journey I used to do of 400 miles costs me £35 in petrol or on the train £70, £84 or £121.

Even assuming I could fit in with the timings of the £70 one the price of petrol would have to double overnight for the train to come into the equation.

And this is before paying for taxis at either end and the inconvenience of having to fit into somebody else's timetable.

Cost of keeping the car on the road is irrelevant, I need to have one anyway.

What was that about solo commuiting being on the way out?

And you wonder why places drift closer and closer to socialism. It's all about taking care and adjusting everybody else's life and income, not your own? Thanks Gordo, you fooked my neighbour more nicely than me. Nice sadomasochism.
