Will I Have To Pay Penalty Charge If I Delay My Moving In Date? I Have Already Signed A Contract.

Recommended Posts

I have signed an agreement to rent a new property a few weeks ago, and my moving in date is the 19th Sept 09, however, I have to pay a total of 3159.00 to move in (6 weeks rent as a deposit & 1 mth in advance) and I have only paid a #1000.00 so far, the agency is okay with this. I would like to get my moving in date changed as I had to pay the rent on the property I am in up until the 29th Sept, am I going to have to pay a penalty for this, or could I lose the property? Would it not be in the landlords interest to let me extend my moving in date, as it is only a few weeks ahead, and it would surely take them longer to get a new tenant.

Shame you didnt get a reply to this sooner. Ask and you may receive, as you say its in their interest to be somewhat flexible. As for the charge...yeah at worst the penalty charge is that you would have paid a week plus rent before you were even living there!

If the contract starts on the 19th September (i.e. you have signed the AST) then you have pay whether you like it or not, if you haven't signed the contract just try and negociate a bit longer
