PFI supposedly transfers the risk of failure to the private sector in return for a generous premium on what it would cost the government to take responsibility for these schemes.

Now, as predicted by many PFI critics, it appears the risk is still with the taxpayer and the vast amounts of money that has been given to the private sector as risk premium was wasted.

Actually, it makes sense for the risk to lie in the public domain. We should be paying for this. It's a scheme that will massively benefit the capital directly and the rest of the nation indirectly...its the M25 of public transport. I also think a high speed rail network should be financed in a similar way. Where PFIs go wrong is when they meddle with the NHS and schools.

THEFT nothing less.........

Spot on.

Up here we still have Labour lambasting wee Eck for NOT introducing new PFI schemes!!!! FFS I'd have thought that the sheer economic lunacy of PFI would have been blindingly obvious to all.

Hmmmm....pauses to consider the ranks of Scottish Labour MSPs..... Actually on reflection, I'm not at all surprised the morons are still advocating this rubbish. These are the people considered to be too stupid to be a Westminster MP!

No, even better, it's continuous, unrelenting, ever increasing, index linked legalised THEFT. Not even a change of government can stop it, once one corrupt public official signs a 30 year contract then it's inescapable.

Outright banditry of tax revenues seems to be the new growth industry.
