New row over 'non-expert' cancer diagnosis of Lockerbie bomber al-Megrahi

Angus "Jock" Macleod, Scottish Political Editor

Abdel Baset al Megrahi

The furore over the release of the Lockerbie bomber intensified today over the medical advice given to the Scottish government on how long he has to live.

It emerged that the prognosis that Abdel Baset Ali al-Megrahi had a life expectancy of only three months or less was supported by an unnamed doctor who had no expertise in terminal prostate cancer.

If this is true some big heads are going to be rolling. Read the comments below the fartcile.

"Prostate cancer" being that "terminal" illness that most men over the age or 70 (or whatever - apologies to oncologists out there but it's a high percentage, right?) have?

We need Jack Bauer to go and get the guy back - there's mail bags that need sewing.

Oh look, RB's putting "Jock" between the names of someone Scottish.

Wow, never seen him do that before. Never seen anyone do that before in fact! Cripes, he's a funny one that RB. :(

Please please please let it be that Mandy could only get the Libya contract if al-Megrahi was released, and the only palateable way was to say he had cancer, and it was all blessed by Brown.

I have always taken on a measured and humble degree of pride in a moderate level of "poetic" license with people's names. Well spotted!

The Lockerbie bomber is suffering from advanced-stage cancer, his lawyer revealed today.

Perhaps the story about his cancer being "terminal" came from his lawyer?

All cancer is terminal, eventually and many go into decades of remission. So the lawyer may have been telling the truth when he said his client was terminal.

Where does this leave Gordon and Mandy? Was it a plot to rid Scotland of the SNP?

I knew you'd done it before I read it. You always do it.

The same way you call Russia the Soviet Union.

He said: "The Scottish government has misrepresented the medical evidence. The Justice Secretary chose to disregard the advice of specialists and release al-Megrahi on the opinion of one doctor, who we now know was not a specialist.

and there you have it

About 80% by the age of 80 at autopsy in an American study.

I thought (and said) as much.

The early release was to avoid the even greater embarrassment of having his release on appeal and the very awkward demands for another investigation.

Please, this is almost too much!:lol::lol:

I can only hope this might be true!

Oh to be a fly on the wall when the U.S. phone Gordon and Mandy about this one, if it is true!

Lockerbie bomber may live for months yet

ITN

The Lockerbie bomber could live far longer than predicted by Scottish ministers, according to a leading cancer expert.

Lockerbie bomber could live for months Play video

The medical report on Abdelbaset Ali al Megrahi's condition released by the Scottish Government said specialists believed he might only survive a few months.

One expert said his condition had declined "significantly", concluding three months was a reasonable estimate.

But one Labour MSP, who specialised in prostate disease research, thinks Megrahi may in fact live "far longer".

Dr Richard Simpson accused the Scottish justice minister, Kenny MacAskill, of failing to conduct sufficient checks before deciding to release the terminally-ill bomber.

yesterday--but it looks like this one may prove to be a cancergate.

my father has terminal prostate cancer. He has had it for 5 years. Gets a needle in his stomache twice a year to manage it. He has just turned 80, and is heading off on a holiday to Bali later in the year, I dare not ask him what he intends to do there, but I have my suspicions. He doesnt drink and hates beaches.

The bomber will probably live a comfortable life for at least another ten years.

In that case the U.S. will bomb London within three.

Utter ********. Many cancers are fully curable if caught and removed at a sufficiently early stage. On the other hand, most cancers are indeed terminal once they have spread around the body, with life expectancy then being measured in months or a couple of years at most.

Have what? It's just a tabloid article spouting re-processed shite for the consumption of gullible numpties.

You seriously think GP's treat cancer by themselves and no specialists were referred to at all in this case?

Bottom line - a medical report was put together (by a qualified physician) and was used in judging the merits of the release. Just the same process as would be carried out for any other prisoner.

And please don't tell me there are "experts" that think he will live for decades. You could fill a room with "experts" and still fail to get consensus on the colour of Sh1te.

If it was, it leaves them praying that it worked. If the rap for failing to get a reliable prognosis can be pinned on McAskill and made to stick, the damage to Gordon and Mandy will probably be limited. Furthermore, the Americans aren't stupid - they know Labour will probably be out of office by next summer and that a majority of the UK population opposed the release. But if the blame for this can be laid at the SNP's door, serious diplomatic consequences are likely to follow for them.

My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer when he was in his early 70's and he died 7 years later from smoking fags (OCPD) all his life.

In older men it is a slow disease and you are likely to snuff it from other causes in the meantime.

I think the Scots have been had and it may have been a set up to lay the SNP to waste but may yet backfire on who was really behind it all. The dark Lord?

Prostate is the least aggressive of all cancers, excluding some skin cancers (BCC). More people die with prostate cancer than die from it.

It's looking like the mother of all balls ups or the most cynical political manouevre since Chamberlain in '38.

Let's go and get him back. HPC can take the glory, and we'll hasten on the crash, part II. All I can promise you is blood, toil, sweat and tears, but the post-mission debrief in Cyprus will be worth it - the Ouzo's on me!

Mike

Great Link Mega!

You realise Explosion was an Elite 'sacrificial' killing?

Lockerbie just happens to hold the largest 'lamb' fair in Scotland!

Silencing of the innocent lambs!

Imagine any Muslim having the Christian(belief)knowledge to know that, plus timing the explosion precisely over "largest lamb fair/market in Scotland"!

The one's who place themselves (thru rigged elections) in charge of us are Wolves - they hate us ordinary proles coz we are not 'enlightened by their Luciferic' "hidden knowlege"!

MALTA > FRANK-FURT> Heath_row>Lock-erbie

People killed = 270 + 11

2+7+0 =9

9/11

If you read the 'icke' thread - you will understand the connection between all those words!

Like the Police Chief who came forward to divulge his deception >

Whistle-Blow

You Know 'IT' makes Sense!

'They' Can't Hide in Hades
