The rail operator has told staff that more than 15% of maintenance workers will have to go. A Network Rail spokesman said the cutbacks would take place between now and April 2011. He insisted the operator would try to redeploy as many of those affected as possible. He said: "We are looking at restructuring our maintenance function to make it more effective in the way we carry out our operations. "We are just starting on consultations with our people and the union. "We haven't identified any specific roles as yet." _____________________________________________ "We have never known a situation where, in a situation of rising unemployment, house prices have risen. Yesterday - give us 34 billion to build a new rail line (How much will the 34 billion become by the time the project is a quarter of the way through?) on a 150 year old technology.... should be Mag Lev but that is another story... bingobob777 Posted August 27, 2009 Share Posted August 27, 2009 Hmmm I work for Network Rail and had an interview on Monday for a track maintenance engineer role with the maintenance function. The interview lasted 90 minutes, 30 of which pertained to technical knowledge, the other 60 was spent discussing initiatives for cost cutting and how I would deal with section managers who had worked one way for 25 years and refused to change.
