What Really Does Turn Women On?

So is a successful and driven career woman more likely to have a high sex drive than her lesser-achieving sisters?

That was the conclusion drawn from research published this week which showed that women with high levels of testosterone are more likely to be risk-takers - and to have stronger sexual appetites.

It's just the latest piece in the jigsaw of the female libido, an enigma that now feeds a multi-million pound industry, with battalions of 'sexperts' racing to uncover the magic formula that will deliver the gift of better sex for all.

But it's also a battleground, with experts at war with each other over whether 'sexy' for a woman begins in her body or her brain.

Over the past decade - ironically, since the launch of Viagra for men had the unexpected side-effect of making drug treatments for sex a hot new market for both genders - millions of pounds have been poured into researching the female libido.

It has uncovered some big surprises and some baffling dead-ends. While male desire tends to be straightforward, a woman's sex drive is a complicated, multi-layered thing.

That said, some women, just like some men, do seem to have a naturally higher sex drive than others. The research just published in the U.S. would seem to back that up, showing that this may well be linked to hormones, and to testosterone in particular.

Women with high levels of testosterone are much more likely to be ambitious and assertive and to choose traditionally male careers in business and finance. They're also likely to want more sex (low levels of testosterone have been shown to produce the opposite effect).

'Eureka!' shout the biologists. This shows that female desire, like male, is rooted in body chemistry.

Simplistic rubbish, respond the psychotherapists.

They believe that female desire is made up of physical, emotional, social and relationship factors. If you have poor body image, an uptight family background, bad early sexual experiences or a partner who is insensitive, lazy or just not that nice, then your sex drive very likely would take a nose-dive.

Who's right, then? Let's just consider the subject these experts are spending so much time and money to argue about, using real examples from a group of women who agreed to talk honestly about their sex lives.

Susan, is 48, slim and attractive and happily married. Well, quite happily.

'To be honest. I don't care if I never have sex again,' she admits. 'I only do it to keep Gary happy'.

Monica is 35 and also uninterested in sex with her long-time partner, but feels ' overwhelming feelings of desire' for a colleague at work with whom she is having an affair.

Lucy is 54 and has the opposite problem to Susan. 'Since my late 40s, I've had the wonderful experience of a late-blossoming sex drive, and I absolutely love it.'

Claire is 24 and in a new relationship with Tom: 'We spend days at a time in bed. It makes me feel very close to him, but I also like the feeling of sexual power it gives me.'

Helen, who is 32, isn't interested in sexual power. 'I've got a full-time job and two children under five. I don't even think about sex.'

....................

Sex researchers have started to talk about the importance of just doing it whether you feel like it or not, to maintain your desire levels

I'm all for just doing it to keep the desire level up.:lol:

Or to put it another way to show the absurdity of the statement

Food researchers have started to talk about the importance of eating when you're not hungry, to maintain your lust for stuffing yourself

If you have less of a sex drive there is less to distract you from achieving more. Granted though that you might not be the kind of person to flirt your way up a social hierarchy.

I think this says more about the way our society rewards behaviour rather than any underlying biology.

I've said it on another thread but this is backing up what I've said.

Firstly consider that men and women create Testosterone in their bodys. Resistance work aka anaerobic exercise is when the body creates it from of all things cholestorel! (Every wondered why Cholestorel levels are going up its becuase of our ever increasing sedentary lifestyles). So high T levels helps the muscles recover quicker and the extra muscle needs feeding when you sleep so you are more likely to be body happy with yourself if you do enough regular exercise.

Now women are more sensitive to the fluctuations of T in their bodys than men, through in their cycle stress from work and you have the pyschotherapists points covered. The biologists and Psychotherapists are both right.

Some female HRT has T in it which also explains why some women become nymphos in later life when they go on this say after a hysterectomy.

If a women is in a steady relationship her sex drive will generally also decrease as well. Its becuase like men women also benefit from the attention of other suitors although most of it only ever amounts to flirting but as semen is also a anti depressant it would also benefit women to have a few male partners as well. Sadly social conditioning and Victorian values are still very common and many people succumb to social conditioning very easily hence the House price bubble for example, and the decline in the number of babies born not fathered by the husband in the family unit. Some subjects are also so taboo and emotive that people cant or wont discuss them openly again social conditioning.

I find it totally illogical that something as pleasurable and free like sex is such a taboo subject and not discussed openly like people discuss cooking, recipes, holidays etc etc. Such is the power of social conditioning from the religious establishments. Fortunately the animal kingdom doesnt succumb to this so pack animals like wolves, & apes for example display their true sexual behaviour including the ability to polyphasic sleep!

Food for thought! ;)

My wife gave birth to our first child 11 months ago. To say it's been sparse would not be an understatement. Is this normal?

They also sniff each others arses and faeces and sometimes eat each others faeces. Are you up for that too?

Were you the Alpha male that was telling us all how you can smell when your mate has not washed his knob after sex? ;)

Same as with food, hon. The more you eat the more you want to! ;)

I think that sex driver is a mixture of inherited tendencies and what happens to you as you develop.

You got confused.

I'm the one that can smell grubby genitals(lucky lucky me eh?).

Some other bloke claimed to be an alpha male, whatever that means in a human context.

Hayfever kills the ability between May and September, this is sometimes a relief depending on who I'm working with.

Oh, and I knew a woman who was far more sensitive, she could smell real details. She was very successful at manipulating people which may or may not be a coincidence.

I knew a woman who openly admitted that after her children were born she had no further interest in her husband, sexually or otherwise. Nonetheless she considered him a **** for leaving her about 3 years later, and was put out when I said "What did you expect?"

Not suggesting this is your situation btw, only you know that.

At the same time though high levels of T will also make people take risks and this is often displayed in risky sexual behaviour. Things like Rimming is one such example, the risk of hepatitis is quite high along with other unpleasant bacteria that can lead to vomitting can be contracted from poor hygiene as can oral sex.

I think I'll avoid washing for a week so I can contract oral sex

With regard to your OH, some women develop a psychological condition where they effectively forget the male/father and just for want of a better word dote on the children until they leave home. Women who have been affected by this extreme behaviour recognise after the children have left and usually the father has left unless he has had some on the side, that she should have shown more feelings towards the father.

The official medical term for this is "nappy-brain". A friend of mine suffered from this and her husband eventually left her.

Oh Yes!

It's not personal though, it's probably just through being exhausted. Probably.

I think you're right. The first few months leave very little time to much else and I work most evenings. I am feeling lucky tonight as the baby is off to his nan.

Yes and No, it depends on how appealling you are to your wife. When women give birth, they start to lactate aka breast feed. Now breast feeding does many things, firstly it helps the women return to her normal weight as lactation is calorie intensive, it also helps to pass on antibodies to the baby as a child immune system is not fully developed until the age of 7 which is also roughly when they start to lose their milk teeth and also when they lose their "sucking" ability. Of course as a child grows up the need to breast feed reduces and becomes more of a comforter whilst still being able to obtain antibodies from the mother. Incidentally if a women cant breast feed, another woman who is not on the pill can usually also start to lactate within a few days/week depending on if they have breast fed before or not. Its a built in survival mechanism to ensure off spring dont starve to death and those who have watch the Last Emperor will see Wet Nurses were common place. Now adays the pharma companies would have you use their inferior product to bring up your child and this means greater reliance on drugs for illnesses later during childhood. One other thing lactation also does is act as a natural contraceptive at least for the 6months after giving birth. As the female body is being intensively used to breast feed its not really capable of getting pregnant again as pregnancy is also very intensive on the body so again its a natural inbuilt method to protect the female body. Having said that it still varies from individual to individual, some larger/healthier women could possibly stand getting pregnant and breastfeed at the same time.

Personally if I was in your shoes I'd be seeking solace with other females, not the PC thing to say if you are married but I'm not, I have my little circle of female friends who put up with me sharing my time around because they like chatting to me and seeing the world from a different point of view. ;)

So do humans but not all, my dog doesnt eat faeces but I have seen some that do. But lets not also forget the Ken Livingston advert for some charity.

"It was Ken Livingstone walking through a Gilbert & George painting, leaning on a turd talking about how, “a starving child in the third world doesn’t get as much goodness in a week as the everyday turd that we flush down the loo.â€"

Cant find the advert on Youtube but its been featured on one of Chris Tarrants funny advert programs.

Push came to shove the human animal will do many barbaric and unpalatable things in extreme circumstances to survive.

No to cheating, we get on far too well and that's worth more than a quick wriggle every now and then.

I am sure there are situations where both sides agree the bloke can head off and 'Get his oats' as long as he is careful ? Surely would be better for both sides. Not sure how you would bring it up though...

I hope so. I'm tole they settle down after 18 years

From what I've read on here, the worry never leaves you.

Best of luck for tonight. You want to pop out and get some flowers, candles, rustle up a nice meal and a bottle of wine. I bet she'd appreciate that.
