Estate Agents Ripping Off Their Clients

Recommended Posts

Never trust an estate agent. Many of them really are a thieving bunch of low-lifes:

Estate agents accused of over- pricing HIPs by up to 50 per cent

Estate agents are levying mark-ups on the cost of Home Information Packs that are adding hundreds of pounds to the cost of selling a home.

Some firms charge 50 per cent more to compile a pack than a specialist provider, according to a report by Which? today.

The net result is that sellers can pay around £300 more than if they had shopped around.

The estate agent arm of the Halifax was found to be the most costly for a typical three bed semi-detached property......

How is this "ripping off".

It is normal practice to charge more for a bought in product than you actually pay, the "extra" is your own costs of obtaining that item.

At least in this case the client doesn't have to buy the EA's HIP. They are perfectly entitled to purchase and supply their own (or, except for the EPC, do it themselves - which is what I would do!)

Why do estate agents even exist?

They've been rendered completely unnecessary by the internet.

I suppose like Travel Agents they'll limp on for another few years.

Why do estate agents even exist?

Exactly.

Did you know Estate Agents do not require ANY qualifications AT ALL?

I certainly don't need an unwashed middle aged man OR an 18 year old telling me, now is the right time to buy. It's an insult to my intelligence.

Most have just left school without a qualification to their name!

I respect bin men more than Estate Agents - at least they get off their @rses and do some actual work!

In my 30 year adulthood I've seen several attempts to take the EA out of the house selling chain.

All have failed. I don't see the internet changing that.

Just how many dozen houses have been sold through the internet without there still being an EA in the loop?
