The £16,000 picnic area, which was completed last month, was a permanent thank-you to [council] staff to celebrate an excellence award by the Audit Commision.

But now, months later, in a cost-cutting exercise, each council employee has received a letter asking them to take voluntary redundancy, unpaid leave or reduce their hours.

I tell you why these people pay themselves £100K or so, to make Hay while the sun shines. Milk the system dry while going is good!

Doesn't anyone think long term anymore?

Millionaire by 30, that's how we should all play it - to hell with the consequences.

Unfortunately some people seem to think the arts is a worthwhile cause and then think their job in the arts is worthwhile and so pay themselves lots of money.

Of course people are very good at justifying spending other peoples money its the Nu Labour way.

Personally I don't think one penny of taxpayers money should be put in to the arts - if people did art for the love of it - some of it might actually turn out to be quite good.

£66 Million pounds on an arts centre in West Bromwich is a scandalous waste of taxpayers money and shows how in the grip of the liberal arts lobby this country is in.
