Spain have had a decent collpase... but I reckon theres much further to go there and some sellers are still in dreamland over what they think they'll get.

Why would you take that view about Spain but not the UK?

Can't we compost them?

It's that or paying the overseer to whip them into shape in the fields; but then you have to feed the creatures.

Only for the UK though please, as they are a UK creation.

Most of them are so wimpish & disrespectful they wouldn't last a day.

EDIT:- word missing

I am selling my charter yacht in the Caribbean due to health problems and moving to where I get good free health cover in the EU. I looked at mainland Spain but the winters are not good enough and the coast is over built. I thought long and hard about the far east, just a bit too long flight wise for me now. Shame as I have traveled many times to there and love it. I looked at France and it was a real contender but same thing in winter....too cold and grey...shame, you have to admire the frogs and property is cheap! So it came to the Azores in third place (cheap property) Madeira in second place and The Cannery's in 1st place all having 12 months a year good weather. I will rent first just to make sure I choose wisely. One agent has told me the market is stone dead with another saying only distressed sales sell.

If I were a younger man I would look at Canada which I found wonderful and I did apply to New Zealand for a resi visa but health events put a stop to that. Don't ever be afraid to pack up and seek a better life, just do your homework. Very sadly the UK is just too expensive and gone to the dogs, you only get one life!

cyprus is in the EU and warm all year round.

malta is another one, or southern italy.

outside the EU there's a big world... el salvador is nice, other places in central america are also worth it, like panama etc..

Instead of house prices, I'd be interested to know which countries are the EASIEST to get into?

It's no use seeing a cheap castle, but not being able to settle in the country because you don't qualify.

Well where do you want to live? If the far East is attractive to you then it's a no brainer. If you are actually just looking to buy for the sake of investment then I'd strongly suggest diversifying your money in a range of investment opportunities from the comfort of your desk. Investing in overseas property is kinda high risk and not easy to do! I'd personally prefer to invest in number 17 at my local casino ;)!

I always think that those that dislike the UK and would prefer to be somewhere cheap are in a great position. You want the opposite to everyone else so your ability to get it is much easier yet you end up getting exactly what you wanted - go for it! It's a bit like being attracted to ugly women (or men), by going against the flow you get to pick the, erm, "best". Good for you. The rest of us, who enjoy living here or have fought hard to escape other countries, won't understand it but so what. Go for it :D

Firstly why so anti expat?

Not every expat dislikes the UK just as not everyone living in the UK loves it! I for one had to leave for health reasons! For all that I can tell you that all, yes every single friend and family member says "you did the right thing" & "country has got worse" & "the weather is terrible" and I should know because I popped back the last three summers for a couple of months and it was grey and raining in July & August! I spend every single day in shorts!

Having made the move I feel like a lot of ex pats (but not all) that once I have seen my friends and been to my three favorite country pubs, I am ready to get back to my life abroad. I lived in the country in Surrey and I got fed up with the traffic, high house prices, weather, miserable faces and halfwit chav's. The bottom line is, that the quality of life in so many departments had been diluted in the UK. It may come as a shock, but life outside the UK can be better and we don't do it to end up with "ugly woman" or even "Cheap" living. The women in so many cases I can assure you are both stunning and fit as a butchers dog! Too many UK women are straight out of Viz and are chippopotamuses!

Agreed!

I enjoy my visits to the UK in terms of seeing family and friends and going to my favourite pubs and restaurants but find myself missing my US life after a couple of weeks.

England feels very grey and depressing now.

This place gives lots of house for the money. It is a bank repo on the Northern suburbs of Cape Town and is in a fairly good/safe area. It works out at around £112K and you might need to spend £18K putting in a decent kitchen and bathrooms. The garden and pool are a bit small, but you cannot expect too much at that price!

I believe the number one reason for people emigrating is to find better weather.

I would also like to put myself up for a mauling about British people and their unhappiness and this site is a good example. There are so many negative comments left on these threads. So many angry people, I have never found this abroad where I have visited or lived. You get the north south divide which is very bitter, you get the haves and have nots and something which I think does more harm than anything else the constant scraping between classes. I would add that I believe high house prices have a lot to answer for, too many people struggle to buy their own place and the young have little chance without the bank of Mum and Dad behind them. Nowt wrong with renting, but then so many of those end up bitter and twisted as well, right I'm off, before the angry mob descends on me! If you find me I would like to be cremated....................thanks

I'm not absolutely convinced South Africa is the future of all happiness! There is normally a reason why something is cheap, I think I know what this is in this case.

Nice place BUT.

Better hope the volcanoes don't go off (again)!

Also their dialect of Spanish is minging ugly and if the pound ever recovers you have the prospect of being inundated with chav Brits again.

Indeedy, funny how the Brit chav's fvck up the UK and anywhere else they can get a plane ticket to. Ever used Dalaman airport in Turkey, it's an embarrassment to be British!

So where else do you go?
