Britain Needs 'radical Re-think' Over Food

Recommended Posts

It is funny how everything ALWAYS involves us (the people) taking a hit in some way.

Less money

Less food

Less freedom

Less land

Just a patern ive noticed. <_<

Funny how all the above does not apply to politicians - Just a patern I've noticed ;)

The reasons for the above??? Too many people, simple. Smug parents should think twice when looking down on childless couples.

The logical follow on's from peak oil are 1 less of and therefore more expensive fuel

2 less of and more expensive food its the less of bit for food that worries me, I wonder who gets to starve

Stop being so negative. How about: -

MORE tax

MORE fines

MORE unemployment

MORE surveillance

Care to explain how the 20million difference between us and Germany disappears, this link shows the UK staying pretty static at 63million. USA adds another 129million and India up to 1.8billion, yikes!

Oh, and you think that's going to come true. I've heard time and time again that the government already acknowledges the UK will become the most popular destination for European immigrants.

And the government has repeatedly said, on Radio 4 at least, that they're watching demographics and they definitely won't let poverty decend on Pax Britannia. It's policy - no way will they let the Uk fall further down the league table - if the US gets 130 million extra - we need 1/5th of that to keep up - we're a mini-US don't you know.

There's ABSOLUTE determination not to let the demographics we have as a result of rescuing Europe in WWII disadvantage us any further. We've already paid several times over for our fallen empire - sick and tired of being the sick man of Europe. Believe me - all the signs are, and everything I've heard suggests, they'll move hell and high water to boost the UK population in line with our "peers".

Me thinks Peak oil is here and the Gov are starting to take Peak oil seriously

The bunch of idiots that make up ZaNu Labour couldn't understand peak oil theory if it hit them in the face.

More likely they watched the re-run of the of the old classic 'Soylent Green' on Sky over the weekend and it gave them a few new ideas on how to deal with the non ZaNu supporting population.........

Why would maintaining a population of 60million cause poverty to descend on us? Where do the extra 15million people live?

Why do we need to boost our population in line with our "peers"?

To achieve a working MAJORITY versus a retired MINORITY, otherwise the entitlements programmes don't fund themselves.

but don't you then have a never ending cycle of having to increase your population to finance retirees?

I'm no expert but it seems a ridiculous idea to me.

Looks like the Government policy of not discussing these important issues is working. But unfortunately you are sadly mis-informed based on current reasonable (who knows?) projections.

Perhaps you should study the wikipedia page on demographics... ;)

At random, have a few references.....

3 references from the same date, very good. I never suggested I was an expert, I asked for an explanation. But if you really think there will be 20million net immigrants into this country within 40 years then more fool you. The net migration into the UK has never exceeded 250k per year and would need to average 500k a year to reach 80million by 2050.

Of course this may not happen, who knows the future, i dont relish the thought of having nearly 20million more people on this already crowded island but this government doesn't seem to care. Demographic trends once established are like super-tankers and reverse only slowly.

The reasoning behind the analysis suggests that there is a very high probability that the UK population will exceed Germany's around 2050 due to

- Increase in woman's TFR (Total Fertility rate- UK now around 1.9 - need above 2.0 to be above replacement rate we are nearly there)

- Immigration (legal and illegal - with immigrants having a much higher TFR etc)

- Increase in longevity

Germany has a lower TFR than the UK - has done for the past 25 years - with the consequence that its population is now declining year on year. Over time it will have a lower population than the UK (and France) unless it can get its TFR above 2 again or have mass-immigration.
