Short haul flights will be grounded long before the government builds any new rail links, besides what are they going to use for money, oh I forgot, the printing press..........

Zu-Labour won't invest a penny to protect our troops etc, but they are willing to invest in this. I hear the French are building High Speed rail in America for New York/Washington run. Other routes to follow.

There is a rather big problem with this particular solution, namely that high speed rail already produces more carbon per passenger mile than modern aircraft; and while each generation of new aircraft gets more and more fuel efficient new trains are going in the other direction.

Article in the times a few years back said even buses are cleaner/safer/cheaper than trains.

It would be nice if they could get the damn things we have now to run on time and be affordable before we start paying the frogs to plan some BS magnetic train pie in the sky stuff.
