@contradevian
The City of London Corporation runs schemes with neighbouring boroughs, which include some of the capital’s most deprived areas. The intention is to publicise the opportunities presented by the City, Yup, those toilets don't clean themselves you know! Its not that long ago that local church and union leaders organised a demo in Canary Wharf due to poor wages and conditions for cleaners and other utility staff employed by banks. LuckyOne
"Above all the City must be the world’s biggest meritocracy." If we look at the top 10% of people in the banking world in the City, 10% of them are truly gifted and in their jobs on merit. The other 90% are bullies, thugs or socially connected and are not in their jobs on what any reasonable person would call merit.

I think one of the factors contributing to the credit crunch is that banks and the city are not even remotely meritocratic.

stormymonday_2011
Potential for foreign travel is high on the list of attractions for those joining the City, Translation There is a good chance you will get extradited to the US to face trial for your financial dealings, a fate that is unlikely to happen to you here because our banking authorities are so supine.
