Men More Likely Than Women To Live At Home After 30

The survey by the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla) also found 13 per cent more women than men buy a property by the age of 25.

Overall, young adults are twice as likely to rent their home rather than buy compared to the previous generation, according to the research.

The survey of more than 1,800 18-30s found that 32.3 per cent of men had opted to stay in the family home while 75 per cent of women had either bought or were in rented accommodation.

Young women are keener to get on the property ladder with 45.2 per cent having bought before they turned 25, while only 32 per cent of men could claim the same.

Just under a third of the total (30.8 per cent) had rented three or four properties, whilst a parallel survey of those over 30 found only 17.5 per cent had rented a similar number at the same age.

Overall, eight per cent thought it wasn't important to eventually own their own property, while just over a fifth (21 per cent) stated that they wanted to continue renting for the foreseeable future.

Experts suggested the trend reflected the property markets of mainland European countries like Germany or the Netherlands where more people rent their homes than buy.

Ian Potter, operations manager of Arla, said: "The research reveals a generation that want to be upwardly mobile and free from ties.

"Attitudes towards renting have changed in the UK and perhaps we're becoming more like our fellow Europeans, who tend to rent rather than buy.

"This trend ... recognises that renting should no longer be perceived as a waste of money, but simply as an alternative lifestyle choice to being tied to property for the long-term.

"Today's graduates, more than ever, are looking for work that involves travel and opportunities to move around, renting allows them to operate more freely in a flexible job market."

The Government's response to the Rugg review recognised that the private rented sector grew from 12 per cent in 2007 to 14 per cent of the entire housing market in 2008, a year-on-year increase of just under 17 per cent.

Just under three-quarters of all landlords are private individuals or couples rather than companies and more than half of all landlords own fewer than five properties with only three per cent of landlords owning 250.

What's happening to rents these days?

Or more likely, that a generation of feminazism and positive discrimination mean that young professional women are more likely to earn a salary that enables them to buy than their male counterparts.

This is more likely to be due to a higher proportion of women buying younger with husbands and boyfriends, than men buyinh with wives and girlfriends. Men on average tend to have girlfriends and wives younger than they are.

Close but more likely to be :

Or more likely, that a generation of feminazism and positive discrimination mean that young professional women are more likely to earn a salary that enables them to borrow more than their male counterparts.

The coming era of increasing negative equity might change this balance again ......

Not wanting to be sexist but I think men are cleverer than women, they don't stay in watching property porn on daytime TV (pumped out by the evil BBC, even when house prices are apparently falling). The men know it makes sense to save a lot and wait a while before buying...

Wot? That's sexist?

I'll get my coat.

nothing to do with the fact that there are too many fat birds and whoring is so cheap these days?

And they say romance and chivalry is dead...

Makes sense if you ask me. Saves resources and you get cooked meals etc etc.

That`s what my one thought at 33 years of age until I drove him out last February.

Now have the chance of a peaceful retirement well deserved.

At that age I considered him to be poncing. ;)

;) Instead the men stay at home looking at porn on the internet, having no mates other than online forums.

I think the real reason more young men stay at home beyond 30 is simply that those men don't have what it takes to go out and fend for themselves. Its nothing to do with buying - they could rent FFS.

Wow, the Nazis had some cool uniforms. I can only imagine what the femi-nazis would look like.

I'm thinking black leather thigh high stillettos. I'm thinking black leather hot pants, riding crops, arm bands (not the inflatable kind).

Marching and high goose stepping in synchrony to "Spring time for Hitler"

Real men aren't victims. Try behaving like one.

Even better if you can convince them that 'more' is a good safe word to go for.

So, women go out and do all the work and dress like a male sexual fantasy as well.

If women dress like a male sexual fantasy then it will be the men doing all the work ;)
