Keep The Us Hacker Here

"Briton should keep the US hacker here

British hacker Gary McKinnon has lost his latest High Court bid to avoid extradition to the United States." Said the BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8177561.stm).

Surely if this guy could bring down the US military network for 24 hours he must be good. Wouldn't it make more sense to give him a job at GCHQ? He went unnoticed for a couple of years. Bloody hell -- why don't we keep him here and use his talents?

WHY is the media so obsessed with him? Some prat on BBC radio this morning was going on about all he was doing was resetting some preferences on his mums computer. Last i heard he was looking for UFOs on protected networks.

Its just the same old waa waa america's bullying us again. Rubbish, the guy has all the weirdo traits of these monsters who go blowing things up, shooting up office blocks. Whether or not he's any good with computers, and maybe he should be working for the govt, he shouldnt be released to do what he wants unopposed.

Because he has Aspergers. Because we have a one-way extradition treaty with the US. Because the US want to make an example of him and put him in a high-sec prison for the rest of his life. Because some Aspergers people don't cope with change well, and going from the UK to an American prison is a big change. Because there's no reason why he couldn't serve his term in an open prison over here. Because he's not a threat. Because there seems to be some exaggeration as to how much "damage" he caused.

It's because the potential sentence is incredibly disproportionate to the crime and the fact that the British government has made absolutely no effort to protect a British citizen. Hopefully this story will become massive and your government hated more than any other in the bloody history of England. ******ing Labour *****.

so nothing to do with the US recognising his talent and wanting him over there to work for them.

expect early release / death in mysterious circumstances.

Yes, I'd put this in the same category as why we went into Iraq -- because the US told is to. What is worrying is not that he is being sent to the US on something that is relatively slight (this is something that the wardialiers were doing in the 80s and 90s), but if it can be him it can be anyone.

Just like using terrorist legislation to invoke a more serious penalty than fits the crime. This seems to be a trend -- we have local authorities abusing legislation to spy on people, we have a heckler at a Labour Party Conference held on terrorism charges, 'you're having a laugh, officer, surely... Aghhh!'.

There are even cries of castration of Parliament as the MPs are all shepherded by the whipps. Nothing will change -- you will just have to keep your comments to yourself. Perhaps even putting these comments on this website could be construed as a terrorist threat.

Sorry, got to go, there is someone banging at the door...

A commentator on The Register raised a good point when he noted that the real crime is the removal of judicial protections in the UK.
