Immigration rules are a drain on the country, says Judge Ian Trigger

Judge Ian Trigger has described Britain’s immigration system as “completely lax†and claimed it partly contributed to rising national debt.

In remarks made while sentencing an illegal immigrant for drugs offences, Judge Trigger told Liverpool Crown Court that “hundreds and hundreds of thousands†of illegal immigrants were abusing Britain’s border controls.

He said this was “creating an enormous strain on resources†as they exploited Britain’s generous welfare system. The result, he said, was a growing hole in the public finances.

Judge Trigger made the comments as he jailed Lucien McClearley, 31, from Jamaica, for two years.

McClearley was arrested after police discovered bags of cannabis in his car in Liverpool on Feb 15. A search of the house where McClearley was staying revealed more than £7,200 worth of cannabis.

Judge Trigger told him: “Your case illustrates all too clearly the completely lax immigration policy that exists ... in this country.

“People like you, and there are literally hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people like you, come to these shores from foreign countries to avail themselves of the generous welfare benefits that exist here.

He has made his views clear on immigration and the welfare system very clear. However, he seems to have conveniently forgotten to mention the parasites at the other end of the scale.

It is not the place of judges to express opinions on immigration control. Their job is to make legal judgements based on existing laws.

First thought is that he should get on with his role in the judiciary and leave politics to the executive. That said, it doesn't do any harm to let the politicians know what their decisions mean at the sharp end.

Yes, he should be reigned in.

Sounds as though he'd been gunning for him - clearly had him in his sights from the beginning. Obviously had him over a double-barrel, and used his complete arsenal when it came to the sentence.

I don't agree with his politics and will fire off a complaint. It's quite possible that they guy will get off on appeal because of the judge's comments and he'll then be seen to have shot himself in the foot.

Respect, M'Lud!

He obviously lost it and went off on a rant, but he's right - the government have lost control of the borders, surely one of the most fundamental duties of any government is control over access to the country.

We shouldn't be giving asylum-seekers the time of day, let alone 5 years worth of appeals and due process. They could ALL find safe haven closer to home.

Hyperbole doesn't help

Hundreds and hundreds of thousands...

He may be right, but his point would have been far more powerfully made if he stuck to facts:

"X % of the people found guilty of criminal offences in my court were immigrants costing the UK taxpayer £YM"

Yes, he should have stuck to precise figures. But the sentiment is understandable regardless - there is uncontrolled immigration and *why do* so many people cross large tracts of Europe to get here?

But after 5 years the kids are settled in school , the wifes the cleaner at the local hospital and the blokes a pillar of the church whilst the vicar is petitioning the village to overturn the inhumane deportation of this lovely family ...

I can't believe it, someone in a position of authority has stepped out of line with his Orwellian masters and is saying what everyone else is thinking about the realities of Britain after 5 decades of mass 3rd world immigration.

Don't worry, normal service will be resumed shortly, hopefully he will be replaced with a 100% Guardianista-certified ethnic model, with the political correctness upgrade fitted.

It isn't hyperbole, it's an understatement

He should have said millions.

The Government has pumped hundreds of billions of pounds into the system just to keep it staggering on until the next election, after that all bets are off and the Sh*t will really hit the fan.

Things are going to get really, really nasty in the UK and Europe IMHO and once again it will be the fault of bleeding heart liberals and Socialists.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

2007 was 1929

2009 is 1931

The Euro and the EU are doomed

The clock is ticking.
