Bbc Wheeze To Extol The Wonders Of Global Economy

Recommended Posts

The BBC has liveried a shipping container with it's corporate logo and, for a fascinating insight into the global economy, been following the progress it makes around the world and looking at what cargo its been carrying.

And where is this much heralded container now?

Erm, erm - well if we must - it's laid up in port, and has been since April, as due to the collapse in the global..........we mean whilst its been there the green shoots have put in such strong growth spurt they have entangled the container and it's become rooted to the floor ;).

On the back of this I think I may write in and suggest they get some removal vans signwritten with the BBC logo. They can then follow these snazzily liveried pantechnicons around the country providing a simple indicator to track the recovery in the housing market. At least, unlike the container scheme, this can't possibly go wrong.

Why were the BBC using licence fee money to ship an empty box around the world anyway?

Just so a few low-level journalists on BBC News, on £90k pa each, could report on it?

I thought there was enough going on around the world during the boom years that they could report on (the complete mismanagement of the domestic economy, the dangerous increase in consumer debt, the unregulated mortgage market, the excessive risk taking by banks, and all the other reasons behind the 300% increase in house prices, etc).

Making "news" out of a shipping container, under any guise, is pretty poor when the lid could have, and should have, been blown on so many things of much greater importance.
