What else do people expect. As a country we stopped being able to spend within our means by the early 1970s, other than one or two rogue budgets here and there spending has always been on the never-never since. Now the never-never is tapped out all that is left is to sell whatever state assets we have left to sell. Roads, schools, Hospitals. Neither party can spend within theyre means, no-one is left willing to lend to us, so expect to see the wholesale privatization of the state over the next decade. Necessary, but a pity it has to happen under such circumstances.

Westerners in general must get used to a much lower standard of living, and will get used to it over the coming years. It will be toughest on the youngest who have only known "wealth", albeit fake.

I agree with this, and in this respect Britain has it harder than many countries inthe coming correction because Britain was once so powerful. A lor of British people were raised to believe Britain was a world power, and it is hard to adjust, but adjust they must because Britain is in reality an overpopulated country with a collapsing economy and very little global influence.

I've noticed the spin that they put on the M6 toll rd. I do the Mcr - London run at least once a week.

Driving northbound on the M6 tonight, Sign - TOLL Clear, Congestion Jnc 8 - 9.

I took the M6 and the traffic was fairly light & NO congestion anywhere.

Maybe there was some earlier and they keep the signs on. Just in case. <_<

well folks get used to it.

this is what MORE TAXES to pay for BORROWING actually means.

stealth or not, its gone from your pocket.

a really big surprise would be a culling of Public Sector Salaries.

It will happen. 10% for all non-front line staff I've heard, and a cap of £200k

We're going to be paying for the last 12 years of NuLabour for some time to come, get ready for a torrid time under the Tories as they seek to correct another failed Labour government experiment.

Zanuliebor - Stealth Tax

It's a tory proposal, probably spun by their spinmeister. You know, the one you were excitably predicting would be sacked weeks ago for something he'd already resigned for, and which no-one apart from you seems to care much about.

Now if the toll roads were free of speed limits.

hell yes, i'd vote and pay for that, i'd probably rack up in tolls the total cost to build the toll motorway near me if they did this and build one

It would be better if all government services were paid for at the point of use

But then people who indirectly benefit won't pay and the cost becomes prohibitive to those that do. As a non-driver I still benefit from a solid infrastructure within the country (as this delivers my food etc). Non-parents benefit from children when those children become Doctors, farmers etc. Yet it is obvious that insisting for every parent to pay for school is not going to help the greater good of society. It's sad that we all seem to like the idea of altruism yet it is funny how the every man for themselves attitude often comes charging out.

It reminds me of the crazy situation in the "olden days" when if you hadn't paid your shilling or whatever to the local fire crew they'd just watch your house burn to the ground. The problem with fire though is that it spreads and all the surrounding houses then go down too...

Costs goes up?

Then stop.

People won't pay?

Then they don't really want it. So stop.

Your actions give people a tangential benefit?

They don't owe you shit unless they sopecifically agree.

The aircraft carriers aren't really about projecting power or military capability. The project exists to create jobs in Labour voting areas.

Driving towards London, the sign said TOLL Clear.... but the radio was telling me there had been an accident on the toll road, the toll clear signs always say toll clear!
