"For all the groans about high loan rates, many borrowers have never had it so good. Millions of householders are on tracker mortgages, many of them paying spectacularly little interest, if any at all."

That's good news then and should help these homeowners deal with the £2000 a month they're losing on their houses.

How many people actually took out trackers?

Millions?

the majority are on fixed...many about to end, the rest of the mortgages are mostly on SVR+, only a few are on spectacular trackers.

the reason is that these things were brought out in desparation of lenders trying to create a CDO Package and were having trouble getting borrowers at the very end of the credit binge.

House prices are now under pressure from rising mortgage rates ( the apparent cause of intense pain before the crunch).

of course, people on these spectacular trackers are stuck where they are, as most cant transfer their mortgages, so they have no influence on the housing market, other than they wont be entering it.
