Back to the 80's, a dream come true, The return of Blondie/Pat Benatar/ Michael Jackson....er may be not.

But he argues: "It is absolutely not the case that people in the public services are dreading this, or saying 'oh my God, what is going to happen?' " He claims civil servants are preparing to make cuts without waiting for instructions from on high. "There is a sense of liberation...

This guy sounds like a right barrel of laughs. Don't think of it as being sacked, think of it as a liberation.:lol:

We thought that would happen for the big housebuilders but it hasn't happened yet, they are just stuck at signals, as it were.

He might be telling it like it is, but he's probably lost a few votes for the Tories as although people want lower taxes they don't want public spending cuts!!

You lot in private sector forget that the majority of the public sector haven't been getting the pay rates, bonuses or any of the nice bits during the boom, and are more likely to have been through reshuffles and job insecurity than the private world. All the public sector has is a better work-life balance and a pension.

When the tories slash the public sector, there's going to be a major knock-on effect as the private sector has less people buying their goods and services. Remember the 80's! Utter decimation for the middle and lower classes to keep the toffs at the top of the pile and doing quite nicely.

PS: I'm not a labour or tory fanboy and don't have a perfect answer.

Recalculate the unfunded pensions, based on what was actually paid in and the returns these investments made.

Simple and fair.
