Recommended Posts

Just got aunty pravda on in the background and heard the female reporter in wales interviewing local VI say something along the lines of " we were talking before about the phycological warfare being used to combat the recession" then went on quickly to say that we dont want to talk out selves down etc.

People in the media and politics have a strong tendency to think that reality is shaped by perceptions. it's psychopathic.

as do, I have found, people in the public sector - 'I'm a good person, give me your money it's better for us both that way' . Again I think it's psychopathic, except shades of grey of delusional behaviour infect us all, its the nature of existence, so I can see how it happens.

Would you consider rewriting this so that it makes sense?

They're talking about "phycological warfare", apparently!

I'm not having my perceptions of economic prosperity influenced by an algal bloom.

Isn't it the definition of being "left wing". The left believe that perception shapes reality, so we can use propaganda to change economic reality etc. Whereas the right believe that reality shapes perception, so being poor makes me unhappy etc.

That's why I with my Physics degree and mathematical background am, according to my Guardian reading friends, a complete and utter right-wing fascist nut-job. With a firm belief in reality.

*pedant mode on* I think you mean psychotic rather than psychopathic.

It's sortof inevitable that if you believe that perceptions make reality, anyone who comes along with facts and says you can't do stuff (especially stuff you can't do because of that naughty mistress called reality) is evil.

Neither view is totaly right of course - you can change reality by persuading people to do stuff. but you can;t do it only by persuasion, we have to use reality to do stuff.

If we take a simple statement like "human beings can fly."

No they can't - wrong.

Yes they can if they wish on rainbows and flap their arms - wrong.

Reality to be commanded must be obeyed.

All of it.

he-he!

psychological grey areas. I meant to say that it is all very well me (or anyone else) accusing one segment of govt or whatever of psychopathy. However, popular psychology tends to diagnose black and white situations - ie psychopathy - where they are really just at the extreme end of behaviour, and it's a value-based judgement that separates, say, a psychopath from someone classed as 'normal' who's just biased.

People who have had their preconceptions supported by events over the last 10 yrs, ie left-leaning journos, may be afflicted with what-could-be-described-as psychopathic need for confirmation. It's only confirmation bias but a bit more blinkered. And it's only human to fall for this.

yes indeed.

I suspect most of the posters are from an engineering/scientific/mathematical persuasion/occupation.

We could analogise the current financial meltdown in terms of some of our smart missile technology.

The bloody thing has gone off course and smashed into a school killing hundreds of kids instead of blowing the munitions dump 100 yards away.

NuLabours attitude seems to be, "oh well, come on guys...my calculations weren't that bad..it was only off by 100 yards!!!"

Utter crap, sorry.

I give you the creationist believing, climate change denying republican party.

Don't forget Saddam had those WMD, he just er, hid them really, really well.

The only atheist political leader in this country is Lib Dem?

Case closed ;)

Funny how right wing analogies are usually based on war/fighting to the death/struggling to survive.

Honestly guys, life doesn't need to be so hard, maybe you should go for a walk or have a cuppa.
