Call To 'rebuild' Banking Sector In Jockland

Recommended Posts

Rebuild Banking Sector

"The Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) raised concerns that the country's businesses have been finding the terms for credit too restrictive.

It said the Scots banking sector should be rebuilt by attracting institutions willing to lend more innovatively.

The CEA is chaired by the former RBS boss, Sir George Matheson."

Wow. Just wow. This country is run by complete morons. More innovative lending ? I am sure that caused some problems recently. Can't quite remember though.....

Hasn't George Matheson been a big critic of the way RBS have been run since he left? I might be wrong though.

Not sure. Maybe he should be a big critic of the way RBS was run while he was at the helm. He did take them to bankruptcy afterall. That is some going for a Bank that has been around for almost 300 years. The guy is an idiot. Very un-impressive speaker too.

lending innovatively?

WTF does that mean?

is this a call for more "products" from the lenders.

I mean, its not hard, it cant be done any other way than a borrower, presents a proposal to a lender, the lender agrees to lend or not and terms are agreed.

Lenders advertise that they do in fact lend to borrowers, sure, but the process cannot be any different, however you dress it up in the brochure.

Do you not remember the calls last year for special Scottish only mortgages ?

This was apparently due to the fact that our housing market had not gone through the same bubble as dan sarf - so we were not at risk..

Tried to find a link but no luck.

Sometimes the small minded Scottish spin really is cringeworthy.

I dont remember this but Im sure it would have been one of the 30,000 special "products" they were marketing.

From the BBC article:

Following a discussion about the Scottish food and drink sector, it challenged ministers to do more to keep the value added by the Scotch whisky industry within the country, and to improve co-ordination of the marketing of Scottish food as a premium product.

Well that's a stroke of genius, isn't it? In the middle of a recession when people have less discretionary spending power, they're going to emphasise the marketing of Scottish food as luxury goods. In the current economic climate I think they'd have more luck with BOGOF promotions of battered Mars bars than 30 year-matured Laphroaig.
