Elizabeth
Microsoft has suggested 50 gadgets for under £50. Neat gismos that won't hurt your wallet. That leaves £10 for food, clothing and fuel costs. So for entertainment, don't pay for a bus. Stay at home and play with your neat gismo while eating your unsweetened brown rice. http://tech.uk.msn.com/features/gallery.as...mentid=16581236
AteMoose
it would pay for my food and give me 30 quid a week spare (if I was single I would be living in shared accommodation all inc and rent (and .'. bills) would be paid by the state). It is how you play it, lots of people are also disabled/have mental problems. Edited July 24, 2009 by moosetea

Guest DissipatedYouthIsValuable
I know a bloke who was made redundant from back office work at a bank, living in shared accommodation, now being a doley. He's had a very good summer on Bournemouth Beach.

Wait & See
Asda are currently selling a 15 pack of Stella/Fosters/Strongbow cans for £7. £60 goes a long way these days.

Guest DissipatedYouthIsValuable
£60 is plenty Unless you happen to be unfortunate enough to have any debt obligations taken on whilst working.
huw
Unless you happen to be unfortunate enough to have any debt obligations taken on whilst working. If you're really unlucky you might even have inadvertently taken out a massive mortgage secured on an overpriced house.

Injin
£60?? I'd never keep up all my middle class guilt ridden essentials on so little money!!
erranta
£30 discressionary spend, more than many who work. Wow £30.00! Claim the dole > my neighbour was 'laid off' two months ago. So how much do your Gas/Electric/Water/Tv licence bills etc work out (per week) over 12months? Bills would be higher (coz u would be at home(not working!) i presume ) unless you freeze without heat and sit in the dark without lights on in the winter! £ ? - left for "discretionary spend" More 'blinkered', media brainwashed, poor bashing on HPC! wealthy
£60 a week? You could get at least a £200,000 BTL mortgage for that and start making money. Quids in!

Sibley's Love Child
Wow £30.00!More blinkered', media brainwashed, poor bashing on HPC! Agreed, I spent a year on the rock 'n' roll back in '97. That was the worst time I can conceivably think of; the nadir of anyone's existence. Rice/pasta and beans was my staple diet. Nom nom. bogbrush
Great stuff from the Grauniad, the home of middle-class guilt-ridden hand wringing. I thought they'd lost their touch. I especially appreciate the "Matt", clearly not making any kind of style statement in his little picture. Tip for Matt: A job doesn't need to mean a PAYE payslip. Ask around who wants odd jobs done for cash and you can clear £60 in a day.
