Bang Goes The Theory

Recommended Posts

Any regular viewer of British TV during the late 1990's couldn't help but be surprised by the emergence of property porn.

Previously schedules had shown a mix of programming to cater for all tastes and interests but it wasn't long before vested interest reduced the airwaves to little more than one giant long-running property advert.

Until the emergence of BBC4 thinking people were largely ignored by television.

So when Bang Goes The Theory - BBC one's new prime-time science show - begins broadcasting form Monday 27th July it will mark a welcome if small turn against the tide of the mindlessness of the last decade.

All we need now is for a purely historical adventure in the next series of Doctor Who, like they had with the first two doctors as part of their remit to educate.

Re Doctor Who, my 2 sons "discovered" Shakespeare, Dickens and Agatha Christie via the series since it has been revived

They aren't historical adventures like the old ones, as there's still a sci-fi element to the plot. In the old ones, eg Marco Polo or The Romans, the only sci-fi part of the plot was that they travelled in time to get there. After that, it was all historical.

And still Ian Chesterton could kick the crap out of any historical figure he met. He seems to have been Britain's hardest science teacher...
