London Good Delivery Gold Bar

Recommended Posts

(Although gold bars come in many forms, in movies we generally see the "400 ounce London Good Delivery" bar (12.44 kg), held by most central banks. They are each worth about $365,000 (400oz × $912.50/oz, as of 10 July 2009).)

If so, can you lift it easily?

are you a little girl? it is 12.5 kg, even the elf and safety fools class anything below 25kg as a one man lift.

This is a market bar, and yes they are clearly quite tricky to pick up:

Video doen't work due to copyright.

Thanks to Digger for the other link. It seems that they are not easy to lift and manouvre then. I'd better cancel that job on the depository!

he was managing fine until the guy made a wager and he had to try one handed only on the sides. Picking up a 12.5kg bar with one hand and holding sloping sides does make it tricky but otherwise, I think not.

Can't remember the size of the bar but at the Perth Mint they have a clear display where you can put one hand in through a hole and lift a gold bar.

Given the obvious constraints it was heavy (the wife coudn't lift it).

BTW have previously been to one of the places where the bank I work for stores gold and boy was there a lot there.
