Brass Eye Classic, 2001

One of the most observant and hilarious pieces of satire in a long while. Kudos to Chris Morris for having the cajones to pull this one off (if you'll pardon the pun).

The predictable media backlash against the special only served to warrant what Morris was spoofing. Wasn't it Jowell (amongst others) that blindly lambasted the show whilst admitting she hadn't then seen it? This show got it right on so many different levels.

I'm the word "nonsense" still freaks this lot out to this day

I think he is the best comedy writer for a very long time and one of a very small handful who don't pander to the establishment in any way shape or form. I think the media companies are actually pretty wary of him, especially the BBC, who sacked him for his announcement that Michael Heseltine had died on his Radio 1 show.

If you look at shows like HIGNFY, they masquerade as anti-establisment but actually they are very much establishment. They deliberately allow the sheeple an escape valve, a spleen vent, just enough to quell the real anger and disillusionment that many people feel about the ruling class and the venal, lying political elite. Then you have the deluge of other comedians and writers who are heavily tainted by socialist ideals.......and that is most of them, from Ben Elton to French and Saunders, Victoria Wood etc etc. They are all feted by the BBC because they knowingly or unknowingly promote socialist ideals.

You can't put Chris Morris in that category.

I have a big archive of Chris Morris' GLR and Radio 1 shows. They are absolutely brilliant. The Radio 1 shows were recorded with his sidekick Peter Baynam. To this day, I don't know how they got away with some of the stunts they pulled. Hilarious. That kind of comedy is gone forever it seems

nostalgia... i miss Chris... the absolute master of subversion

News24 becomes, unwittingly, more like The Day Today every day, these days... and it's the Pound fast becoming the 'rogue leg, with no hip constituency, at all', on the Currency Cat

If you have anything you can add to the main archive of morris' radio work you'd make a lot of people very happy ^.^
